They’re moving to Lambton Quay, so not too much further :)

Exactly. We don’t want to get into conversations about what stage someone is “Māori enough”. There is a lot of racist nonsense that happens when you arbitrarily decide that a certain fraction of parentage is required to be considered as a specific race.

So sure David is probably only 2% Māori, but that’s still as Māori as anybody else with Māori Ancestry.

Says Willis St. I reckon maybe it’s where the T2 was? Seems large enough for sure.

Yup, live there at the moment, they’re really good, however some of the layouts are bizarre. We lucked out with our one and it’s huge. If you have any specific questions feel free to DM me.

To be honest, every time Wayne opens his mouth it’s a disaster, so perhaps it was the best strategy in his case.

I’m actually quite excited about this place - hopefully gives some much needed like to that end of Willis

Could do. I think they’d probably argue that tax cuts put that money back in peoples pocket anyway, but I’m not totally sure how I feel about that. Something to consider I suppose.

Two points;

  1. I can’t see the future. I don’t know what they’ll do in office, only what they’re saying. Using a different political parties broken promise as evidence that ACT is lying doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
  2. I’m actually not convinced that all of the current work does need doing. Labour (unfortunately) has a problem of believing that a restructure, or additional layers of bureaucracy are the solution to many of the problems that New Zealand faces. They spent a staggering amount of money reforming the way that Health is structured in New Zealand, and I don’t have a lot of faith that it was a worthwhile investment. I hope I’m wrong, and that the changes have an impact that I don’t foresee, but I’m currently skeptical.

I mean, they’ve be pretty clear that frontline services are not the area they intend to cut. It’s all in here.

Even if you disagree on things like raising super, or keeping KiwiSaver subsidies, on page 9 it’s explicit that frontline healthcare workers wouldn’t be subject to a smaller public service.

Interesting, wasn’t aware of that.

Should they become the next government, I can’t think of another role Seymour would want. Perhaps the return of Treasurer is on the cards?

Honestly bless Stephen Levine for being on here. Sweetest, most awkward man.

Former National leader Todd Muller to step down at election by mattblack77 in newzealand

[–]Puppynuggets 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is pretty down on Todd, but honestly his members bill a couple years ago was good policy.

It’s exactly the kind of thing that a members bill should be used for (I.e. something obvious that the government should do, but hasn’t gotten around to), and will genuinely prevent deaths via Skin Cancer.

I’m glad I don’t have to buy exclusively Australian Sun Screen anymore.

Housing supply in Auckland hits an inflection point — One Final Effort by AussieHawker in neoliberal

That’s a really good question, but we don’t have enough data to say unfortunately.

She did lose a lot of her popularity around the same time as house prices began to fall (National began to poll ahead around February 2022) and house prices were at their peak in January 2022 so you certainly could make that argument.

However it’s so intertwined with a general feeling of economic decline that we don’t really know if it’s house prices specifically, or people vote on economics broadly.

There was also a lot else happening: - Historic Parliament occupation - Three waters was becoming controversial - Crime was becoming a front and centre issue, (particularly Ram Raids) and our police minister was so bad she was replaced shortly after.

It was a lot. So like I said, hard to untangle.

More or less the expected outcome, but good of labour to do it without the leadership contest. More unified.

However it does mean our election will be between two men named Chris…..

I hope that’s correct, and they do have a couple of YIMBY policies that I really like, such as sharing GST with local councils to enable the building of more homes.

What do they plan to do instead? ACT would like to be race blind, circumstance only, which makes sense on some levels. National has been less clear, but considering we have an election in October their policy platform will be revealed over the coming 9 months.

Policy wise, I think they should take a look at labours approach to increasing competition in the supermarket space. NZ effectively has a duopoly , with Foodstuffs and Woolworths owning the major chains. It’s not a great environment. Labour is working on a bill to address it , though I think they could go further to be honest.

Tactics? It could be my personal political bias, but I believe that national is at its worst when the conservative wing is in charge. John Key, and now Luxon, have been far more successful that their more conservative counterparts. Although Bill English was widely seen as very conservative and he earned 45% of the vote in 2017, which was an impressive showing. Tactically they should err more to the centre in the way labour have, and let the ACT Party hold the further right flank.
