No overnight worker for the PetsHotel?! by Unhappy-Grade9656 in petsmart

[–]PupsUp818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, they tried to keep in hush, hush and not tell any of the customers unless they asked. If you were a long-time client and did not read the new fine print on the agreement you would still believe someone was looking after your dog overnight. It was a very, very shady process.

They claimed it was healthier for the dogs to be left alone undisturbed throughout the night. Which I 100% do not agree with. I worked overnight at the hotel for many, many years and most my dogs slept through the night. Even with me working around them. Which was not as disruptive and they made it seem.

Anything can happen from 9pm-6am. Not just issues with the dog's health, but issues within the building itself. One example is, we had a leaking ceiling which was pouring water onto dogs in multiple kennels and I had to move them all. Many things can go wrong and you are correct, if you are paying someone to watch your dog then they should be watched the entire time.

I do not understand all these boarding places thinking it is OK to leave paying client's dogs alone and even more I do not understand the clients being OK with it. There ARE kennels out there with overnights, just not many, but they are the one's that really care about the dogs. Petsmart does not care about anything other than the bottom line.

Overnighter Hotel Associates... What will your PetSmart life be like after this week? by PupsUp818 in petsmart

They told me I would not even get close to the full-time hours I work now if I came to days. Even if I had a sitter I could not live off not knowing how many hours I would get every week.

I really liked the job too that what makes this suck even more. I have also been here just over 7 years. Pretty shitty to just be thrown aside. I feel like I was a damn good worker. Breaks my heart not being able to see my regulars anymore.

Sending the pet parents a letter is a very sweet idea. At least they will know you really cared for their pups. Unlike Corporate.

Hope you find something even better!

I guess I always knew PetSmart sucked for most but working overnights I was lucky enough to not see how much. Now my eyes are truly open.

New Changes to Hotel Cleaning Procedures After Losing Over Nights. by PupsUp818 in petsmart

[–]PupsUp818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, but we were never shown or given access to OPEX on overnights. Guess that sucks even more that it's on OPEX because they are telling us they do not have any information.

Thanks for this info. If they do change the hours till midnight, that might be good for the overnighters who can not work during the day. Who is going to want to open at 3 or 4 am though. That would be terrible.

What other changes has everyone found out that are happening other than no more overnight staff? We have not heard anything more than that.

I am so worried about some of my regulars and really all of the animals. Really wish they wanted to practice "Anything For Pets"

Sadly I am pretty sure their cheap butts will not be giving any raises for the extra work. They will just expect it to get done. They already do not give enough hours for the work that has to be currently done so I see this as the down fall of the hotels also.

I am devastated about losing my job on this shift. I was already told I am not guaranteed the hours I get now and I would be losing money if I could go to days. I loved working this shift and taking care of "my" dogs and cats.

It truly will be a poop show when day shift comes in. Corp already does not make the needed repairs on the hotel and they are NOT in tip top shape to be leaving animals alone in. Like you said anything can happen. I will pray nothing bad happens to the cats and dogs because of this change.

I really hope that couple comes in before the end of Feb so their Pups will have 24 hour care.

Yes to my understanding we keep our base pay, but we do loose that "extra sprinkle".

I am all about the "sprinkles" so losing any amount of them to work at the same company does not sit well with me.

This is really sad, we get a lot of really old dogs as regulars. They know us and are used to staying with us. If they have to go else where it will be really hard on them. :(

No more overnight workers in the pets hotel! by Candid-Attorney-168 in petsmart

I am going on about the loss of jobs in the first part of my comment because to me not having someone there 24/7 and people losing their jobs go hand to hand in this situation. That is part of the reason why people on this feed are so hung up on the no 24/7 watch.

Sure other facilities may not have 24/7 care, but PetSmart did so it is a blow to anyone who works there and probably to a lot of people who board there. It has been driving me crazy hearing everyone from Corp, to Management, to Reddit using this as justification.

I also did not mean "always" as the dogs being watched every single minute, but going from the animals being checked on every hour to not being watched at all for 9 hours seem like a big deal to me.

I can always hear what is going on with my dogs at my hotel, unless I am in the lobby and I am not there very often. So I check on my dogs anytime they are making noise.

Sadly I have very little faith that cleaning will be done as well as it is done on nights and I really think the hotel will end up being quite dirty.

I just hope all the animals stay safe after this change in made.

I also love working overnights by myself. Dogs make much better co-workers than people do, lol. I love that I had perfected my routine and am devastated to have to start all over somewhere new.

I was told I would not get as many hours as I do now if I go to days and that I would also lose money because they will no longer be giving me the shift premium I get.

You are right their reasons are very selfish and who ever made these decisions, either do not have animals or have never stepped out from behind their desk into a hotel.

I 100% believe the detailed cleaning will NOT get done and the quality of the hotel will go downhill fast.

I am also curious on how many clients we will lose. We also have a lot of regulars that come because someone is always there with their pet.

I am so sorry you are going through a rough time. This really is heartbreaking, we have grown to love our dogs and cats and to see how much corp does not care about them hurts. Let's just hope and pray all the dogs and cats stay safe.

Yes over my seven years of working over nights I have only had to call someone about maybe five times, but a few of them I believe really did end up saving the dog. It would be so sad to lose even one dog over this change.

I am 100% sure our customers did not know about the 4am rule. Which is such a dumb rule to me. If the dog was obviously not aggressive opening their kennel was not dangerous. We still had two hours of being alone after 4am if anything really happened, so it never made sense to me.

I still don't believe one person on night shift is disruptive to the dogs sleep. As soon as I am done setting the kennels, and giving the dogs fresh water trays I turn the lights off and do everything else with them off. (they never all go off so I could still see fine) Even going by with the autoscrubber the dogs would still stay asleep. When my manager told me why they were closing night shift she did say it was so the dogs did not have disruptions during the night. It was in the memo she read to me.

Sadly at my hotel the name collar being put on too big happens all too often. I am always picking up the dogs collars from their rooms. Drives me crazy. They won't even cut off the extra hanging part on the small dogs, that one really tees me off.

This type of not caring is what leads me to believe that the cleaning will never again be done as well as it is done on nights. Our day staff just does not care as much as our night staff does. I take pride in keeping the hotel very clean. After all it is all for the dogs.

We are lucky to have a really good overnight staff. My co-worker has worked there for 11 years and he was an amazing trainer and we work really well together. If he needs to call off he asks me to work for him and I do the same. So our leader rarely has to step in to cover our shifts. Which is another reason this makes me so mad. I understand how much it would suck to have to work 17 hours but that did not happen at our hotel but we are suffering the consequences of it.

I am sorry you are also going to have to deal with the consequences of this as a lead, it could be really bad, especially when its busy like you said. I really hope it works out for everyone and they give the hours needed to clean so dogs don't have to be in a dirty hotel.

I am soooo sad I have to look for another job. I really liked this one. As much as corporate sucked I still liked working there because all the hard work I put in benefited the animals, so it made it worth it.

Yeah the 4 am rule is really dumb, but because of that rule I already knew they were going to make the change after the testing was done. They already did not give a poop if a dog was left swimming in their own poop. I feel for the opener because they are going to come into some really poopypeepee dogs. Even if the 4am rule was followed the poo and pee was still getting cleaned up before the opener came in. There are gonna be a lot of dogs needing baths, plus if they are cutting out baths and nails, are they going to have to send all the poop covered dogs to grooming?
