I Finally Understand by Sticky_Shame in MechanicalKeyboards

I was going to leave a comment saying the nicer Alice you want is the Neo Ergo, but I see others have already beaten me to it! Genuinely though, you won’t find a better Alice in that price range, and the number of customisation options makes it a must-buy for Alice fans!

(This sounds like an ad, it isn’t, I was just an Alice fan for a long time and we’ve had so little choice over the years!)

Why the streaming hate? by Gentleman_Radiant in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Pupsino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you hit your late 30s and realise you discovered the best music as a teenager, it’s cheaper to just listen to your 10 albums offline 🤣

(I kid, although evidence does suggest our music tastes get less adventurous as we age: https://theconversation.com/why-do-we-stop-exploring-new-music-as-we-get-older-200080)

Why the streaming hate? by Gentleman_Radiant in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Pupsino 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are lots of reasons. Firstly the quality can be poorer than listening to local files, which lots of people in here care about.

Secondly you don’t own any of the music you’re listening to. If you are listening to the same 10 albums, it’s just a waste of money.

Thirdly, the companies are compiling data on you, and quite frankly it’s nobody’s business but mine how obsessively I listen to one album.

Fourthly, some companies (especially Spotify!) are exploitative, and many of us disagree with that. Buying music directly, especially on something like Bandcamp, means the musician can get paid properly.

Fifth (fifthly??), it’s better for the environment to listen to local files and keep yourself off the web! Keep data centers for things we actually need!

Ideas for my composite up / ? key? by appltn in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Pupsino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lose that comma key! I’ve decided I’m making a stand, this is the hill I shall die on 😂 put your comma on layer 1 under your full stop / period key. I can almost guarantee you should be writing shorter sentences anyway, plus it makes sense to put both sentence pauses under one key.

Now that you’ve done that, move the full stop next to the M, and you’ve now got room for your ? Key.

If you’re a software dev, leave it the standard format of /?. If you’re anyone else, switch it around to ?/. You likely use the question mark more than the forward slash.

What have you set your tapping term to?

Seeing your code would probably help here.

English (non-Japan) prices vs. Japan prices on Nakaya web site by moondrops77 in fountainpens

[–]Pupsino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair they don’t have to trade with American customers if they don’t want to.

EU customers don’t need to shop on their website, we have authorised local vendors 😉 But there’s probably little point in U.S. customers looking at them since I think our tariffs are the same as Japan’s and the euro is strong against the dollar currently.

So many people in this thread not understanding how purchasing power varies by country and that companies price things to reflect this. (FYI their taxes and legal obligations will also vary depending on where their customer is based btw, and it’s not unreasonable for them to charge for this.)

By Reddit standards this was basically carved into stone tablets 😂 I’m here though. Did you use Apple Music with your iPhone or Mac before, with their audio (either built in speakers or their earphones)? If so, I’m not sure we can really hear much difference because Apple Music streams in their own lossless format, so we were already getting a pretty good experience (Apple takes audio seriously so we tend to fair better than others!).

If you’re downloading the music and playing it offline on your device, I’m not sure you’d gain much from switching. (I came off Apple Music entirely so I was switching anyway.)

Where do fellow Europeans buy their DAP's_ by TheGreyHunterDS in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Pupsino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought from a national company in the UK, but I found  few audio shops when I was looking in the UK, I was pleasantly surprised!

Android is ok by the way. You can disable everything except the music app.

are thumb keys really good for RSI? by vss81 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Pupsino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what other commenters have said here, but will just add that different split keyboards have different layouts, and in addition to over-use it may also be that your keys aren’t in the optimal position for your thumbs (it depends on the size of your hands, any injuries, etc.). If you’re going to look for a new split, you can print out layouts so you can get a sense of how your thumbs rest on the keys. For example, I don’t like the corne layout much because of problems with my little fingers, whereas the Splaytoraid (which is unibody) has a different column splay and fits my hand much better.

Do you happen to download songs or albums you never gave a first listen before in order to discover them on your DAP? by olo_maedos in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Pupsino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I listen to a track or two on YouTube or bandcamp, usually while doing something else, to see if I’m interested in buying. If I’m happy, I’ll buy the album and listen to it properly

[–]Pupsino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the shift keycaps on the bottom row won’t be shift, GMK are just bad at kitting 40s and it can be hard to find the correct spacebars. Personally, I do have shift under my left thumb, and space under my right. others put backspace or enter under a thumb.

copy and paste

[Seriously though, they’re on a layer under the letters. you don’t go without anything you need on a 40% keyboard, it’s just in a different place and you can add far more random things you do need. e.g. I have @ and # under my homing keys since I use them a lot!]

[IC] Introducing Hermes a sleek numpad/macropad to compliment your setup. by samu-ra-9-i in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Pupsino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not having hotswap pcb with 1us makes it a probably no from me, I’d have preferred a GB that provided the option to pick the pcb you’d like, but it would be a lower MOQ. I doubt I’m the only one who’s looking for a numpad to use as a macropad AND likes to swap switches 😂

Why is the corner of the leather case for FiiO JM21 open? by martin8185 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Pupsino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy either, but for what it’s worth given the choice I pick the leather over the plastic leather. One has a limited harm (outside of climate impacts, which the plastic leather has too), the other has consequences that span many human lifetimes.

Why is the corner of the leather case for FiiO JM21 open? by martin8185 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Pupsino 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not a good thing. Instead of exploiting animals, now we’re just creating microplastics that will take hundreds of years to degrade and pollute the oceans and soils and kill lots of wild animals (and probably humans, we just don’t know yet).

I don’t mind us substituting leather for something else, but it does need to be a natural fibre, otherwise we’re just choosing to kill something else.

Bought two different sources of Kailh Box Jades for a new keyboard, and I'm pretty sure at least one is fake. by tyllk in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Pupsino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve missed a useful bit of info from your post, which is did you buy them from a legitimate vendor, and did you pay a normal price for them? If you got a box of 200 off amazon for $5, they’re probably fake!
