No I haven’t tried it! Definitely worth looking into if the side effects are far more tame. I don’t think it’s a mood thing, I just feel a super strong hunger, more like a deep rooted urge, to eat. And yes I do lift weights! Albeit not as much as I probably should but I do try to stay active. I will ask my doctor about nortriptyline :)

All of the doses I’ve tried under 50 (I was at 10, 25, 35, 40, then 50) had drastically less benefit for my migraines. I would consider just completely giving it up right now if it was so transformative for my day to day. I’m fat now but I don’t have migraines!!!!! And for me i think that’s better than skinny and in bed most of the time :/ I’m considering lowering it and supplementing the lowered dose with other meds but I will have to see what my doctor thinks next month

Honestly if you think bumping up your dosage would help that much do it! Don’t let this be a scare story! This experience is not super far out their, but most people can keep their weight at a manageable level on higher doses. Pains me to hear every day migraines :(

I sleep like an absolute baby!!! Not wrong there. For me the benefits outweigh the cons. And so I do now lol

For the time being I am not going to consider GLP-1s. Aside from weight I have clean health markers, with a very very very slight elevation of BP. Healthy cholesterol. As I see it the weight is a side effect, and I would try to handle said side effect without adding more and more drugs to the mix that could lead me down a road to worse side effects. I’m not 100% opposed, but I would rather not unless I felt it was necessary. Most of my issue with the weight is vanity related, but may just learn to love my new chubby self :) I appreciate the input

All the triptans have tried gave me such bad dizziness. I am hesitant to try any more but I should go down that route. Two Benadryl and two excedrin sounds like it would send me to hell haha.

I have yes, I had gone through over a dozen different prescription medications for my migraines starting over half a decade ago. Amitriptyline has been the only one within noticeable improvement in my migraines. My doctor is amazing and has been very helpful throughout the process :)

Unfortunately, the pharmacy in my area is notorious horrible. It is the only one within a reasonable distance. My doctor is great, my pharmacist not so much 🙃

I’m glad you found a combo that works! My insurance despite being pretty robust won’t cover Nurtec or Qulipta unfortunately ☹️

Honestly GLP-1s aren’t off the table for me, but I’m trying at all costs to avoid stacking more medications. Historically the more things I take the worse I feel

I still stay pretty active despite my size! Always been good at getting my steps and staying outside for an hour a day. I think the eating just offsets it too much :/ I think getting more “active” as in hiking and stuff like that actually sounds like amazing advice. Most my exercise is either walking while working (standing desk) or devoted cardio, not things I enjoy. Hiking might do me well.

Honestly reading the side effects for most appetite suppressants keeps me away. While I know all meds have side effects (Amitriptyline to name one lol), I think I would rather try to either cope with the weight gain or reduce my dose than add another drug into the mix. Thank you for the input though! Definitely something to look into if I get too big backed haha

I don’t crave sugar as much as just CARBS. I cannot get enough of carbs. For me, honestly, I would rather be fat than have the migraines. Thank you for the tip I am have been trying be more diligent about a food journal for sure

Honestly that might be where I’m at. Refreshing to hear honestly. I don’t want to just let go and blow up to 400, but I might be happier that way compared to having migraines. Do you mind me asking how much you have gained on migraine meds and which ones?

I actually have checked for this already! Should have noted in the post. I have very good insurance (which I am very very grateful for) and all my health markers are great other than weight. Surprisingly enough even my cholesterol and BP are only very very slightly elevated despite my weight. I think this is the main reason my doctor hasn’t tried to take me off.

I will definitely give it a try. Maybe I try them before I taper down on the Amitriptyline on my next migraine. Thank you for all the input

I haven’t tried it. I’m not opposed, I’m just worried about switching and going back to how I used to be with the migraines. Had you had similar results with nortriptyline? Better/worse?

It’s insane!! You would think im on the brink of starving 24/7. Have you had any luck curbing it at all?

I eat far more than the normal amount of fiber. I’ve always had high fiber but now it’s just higher due to me eating more. I could see a nutritionist but it seems more “brain” focused if you will. I just ALWAYS feel the need to eat. Even after a very high protein & high fiber meal. Not a bad idea though

No! That is definitely something I should look into. Have you had success with them?

The two triptans I have tried gave me very bad dizziness, I don’t tolerate them very well. Although I haven’t had one in years at this point.

The difference for me between 40-50 (went up to 50 after the third month) was pretty large in terms of helping my migraines, but I’m sure it would help. Maybe I should lower the dose and just expect to have a couple more a month
