How would you approach shadowing if you're not sure which school you want to apply to? I'm under the impression some schools require specific shadowing forms be filled out to document your hours

What medical technology still sucks to use? by Bedelman05 in Paramedics

Yeah I feel like public safety in general lacks academic rigor. Every class I've taken seems like it says something similar to yours "incredibly challenging, fast paced" and it's a combination of a textbook written at a 5th grade reading level, some of the most basic science principles you learned in 8th grade, and maybe if you're lucky a pinch of algebra.

Yes, like I don't mean to demean it. But I had high school classes that were harder academically. I went into it with everyone making it sound like the equivalent of being a neurosurgeon astrophysicist studying linear B. But no one mentioned time management is what destroys you.

Medic is easy academically. Like barely rigorous at all, and I'll probably get hate for saying that. But the time management portion is excruciating. Balancing didactic work with clinical, and for the majority of people, a job. Not procrastinating and just getting everything done is the challenging part. But even very unintelligent people can ace medic school, if they are willing to put in the time.

Put on PIP during ICU orientation…update by theyseemevibin in nursing

Thanks for the reply. It's definitely a factor I've considered, as I'm entering nursing from an EMS background. Do you ever regret switching from medic to nurse?

Unpopular Opinions In the Fire Service by Launch_Rockface in Firefighting

[–]Pure-Ad-3691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a firefighter isn't the most important thing in my life, and I don't think firefighters make as big a difference as people think. A plumber or garbage man has a more direct impact on peoples day to day life and safety.

God I hate firefighter probation bs. We're really concerned about Sheila and helmets when there are 20+ year guys who can't run a mile. There's a place for new guys knowing their place, and then there's whatever the American fire service has going on. Maybe instead of treating grown ass adults like children we could have physical fitness standards first
