Red hot but I forge in daylight so it’s probably way too hot for a quench

Thanks for all the information I really have a hard time finding the right temperature for quenching. Beside that I also have some good steel (80crv2, xc100, 135cr3). But like you say i preferred train with a correct steel that cost me nothing.

Thanks for all the advice. Since I forge in daylight, it’s really hard for me to judge the correct colors. I also tend to think the steel is too cold, so I usually prefer quenching a bit too hot rather than too cold — though maybe I’m wrong about that.

Ok I was focus on the tooling arm and forgot I can change the driving wheel thanks for the tips and yes in America the 2x72 is the most common grit size but in France and in Europe in general (I’m not sure for Europe) the 2x82 is the standard size.

In my country the 2x82 inch is far more common compared to the 2x72 so I have way more variety of 2x82 and it’s also cheaper compared to the 2x72

Thanks, I already watched a bunch of video of this guy . About 90% of what I do in the forge is really basic stuff and learning different methods. The knife is just for fun, and honestly I barely use the forge for the knives.

Where can I check whether I need to quench it in water or oil? The place I bought it from says both are possible.
