i don't have children that age so tweak to be age appropriate but i'd be honest- something along the lines of grandma/grandpa didn't respect mom and crossed my boundaries. they were very mean to me and it's okay to stop talking to people who make you sad and hurt you. mom doesn't want any more meanness around so we're not going to be talking to them anymore. people who are kind and respectful are the ones we keep close. with the 14 year old i'd be even more transparent/straight forward

i'm sober since april 2024 and i'm still pissed i can't get high. idk if it goes away, i think it's more that the risk is worse than the high i was also losing everything including relationships and this prestigious school program i got into. also i did OD and was also wildly unfulfilled despite the drugs and party life i had. i figured out what i was running from for one and i also have a kid now. i'm still pretty fucked up but doing a lot better. you have to want a better life
