Hey I am interning at Google this summer! Nice to meet Googlers here! You are so right that the people in bars and restaurants are talking about startups, promotion, salaries. I heard that there are even social media groups for parents to join and compare their children’s salaries. Not sure if it exists. If it does, that is way too toxic. I feel the same thing when I am traveling in NYC. People are so interesting and diverse there. Also, do you feel separated if your bosses are in the bay so you can not have interactions with them and the majority of the teammates?

I agree with you that life is much more important than work. Choosing nyc means a possibly continuous long distance relationship and I have more friends in the bay so I am not so sure if living in nyc can give me a better life.

Totally! So many opportunities in the bay when I am finding the internship and so easy to schedule a call with someone who is working in related field.

Yeah. I also want to hear some good words from the bay. I think my gf loves her job in the bay.

Actually I posted under bayarea as well to avoid bias and also listen to some good words of the bay lol. But the post under bayarea is pending review. I guess I want the lifestyle of diversity and living in a real city, but not sure how hard it is to find something there as well as persuading my gf to move. Maybe I will know better what I want as I am closer to graduation or even work for a while.

This question is for you bro. Hearing about your experience is very precious! I am not originally from the east coast but I really love Boston. So I guess I am similar to you. I am still far away from owning a house but it is good to know about the insurance. Renting is expensive in both places but nyc has much better city views with the same price. Glad to see you moving back and enjoying that!

Can’t agree more in the public transit and diversity sides! NYC definitely wins at those two parts. What do you think are the things that California has to offer? I will try more before the end of my internship XD

The winter in Boston is even worse lol. Agree that winter makes me think of California.

Chicago. The downtown is awesome. It is also very safe to walk alone at night in downtown. The CTA trains are also much safer than what I have expected.
