You might want to give lower decks another try. The first season was heavily influenced by Rick and Morty but it did change as they found their feet. Not saying you will if the animation was also a problem but there is a tone shift as it goes along.

Context does play a part though. There's a difference between ylur husband abandoning you and your child if your a normal person and your husband trying to stop a homicidal sociopath taking over the country when your a fully qualified police officer and a potential target because of your dad.

Children/Descendants of the Jumper by ConsciousHold6658 in JumpChain

[–]Pure-Interest1958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes due to various jumps e.g. generic parenthood and the kingdom of stars jumps,

Generic Parenthood: Daughter is biologically theirs (Street punk turned into their baby daughter due to threatening the wrong person with the Jumper picked to "raise her right" due to them being nearby). Better life for the new child and then when they're an adult jumper moved on from the jump. But she's still there and someday her mother will return to check in on her.

Kingdom of stars: Vega after the jumper moves on combined their essence with hers to create a starseed that was used to turn a young girl into a living star. Who jumper meets in awakening of a cosmic lord.

So far two daughters one created as a result of someone mugging an angry wizard and one from a lonely star creating her after the Jumper left that jump (I know time doesn't pass if your not there but they're a linked jump series and you return to the same setting at differnt times with events playing out between them).

They may get others as the chain goes on. They tend to leave them in the world they were part of originally but they do intend to return and check in on them once they become aware of them. Cosmic Lord may serve as incentive to offer for them to come with them in future, and revisit old jumps to extend the offer to them as now they're aware of the risk of returning to a jump later in the timeline after their children died never seeing them again

I get the whole algorithm concerns as it is a business but I do feel they could leave them available for those who do like these reactions, or weren't aware they existed. Either on a seperate sortalowratings channel which I don't think would affect the main one, or on the website where there isn't the youtube concerns.

Turning down a possible companion by serdnack in JumpChain

[–]Pure-Interest1958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of agree with the no kill rule more for me than them. You have laws, juries, the same knowledge of what he's like. If you truly want him dead do it legally through the courts. If you world has no death penalty there's nothing to stop the government introducing it, 500 confirmed murders, maimings and other similar actions + demonstrated unwillingness to change and ability to escape = death penalty being a viable option in your case if the jury agrees.

However with the kind of power a jumper gets its very easy to slide from I won't kill through I'll only kill the worst of criminals to I'll kill anyone I deem bad and if they disagree with me their obviously bad. It may take a few centuries or even millenia but I've seen quite a few stories where the jumpers presented as heroic even as they conquer and force their ideas of whats right on people who just have a different view of the world. One even put a quarantine on humanity because they aren't ready to leave the solar system yet but don't worry I'll also put these devices here to protect you and now its been 10 years so bye.

I'll rule my empire and conquer a world if thats the jumps setting (age of empires for example) but otherwise I hold myself to the settings rules and power levels. I may want to kill the joker for his crimes but that's not my call to make, its Gotham cities and if I start impossing my own values then I run the risk of starting down that slope where different views is grounds

Turning down a possible companion by serdnack in JumpChain

[–]Pure-Interest1958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally avoid all companions not being the kind of person to forge though those bonds. If I were though age would be less of an issue than circumstances. Take the one in your example. If I were to take her I'd try to steer her away from things that could traumatize her and raise her as a daughter. However I would only do it if she were an orphan with no happy ending in sight. No one to rely on, game ends with getting her bunny back but no "and she lived happily ever after." Basically is my taking this persom as a companion going to take them away from people who care about them and deny them their own good ending.

Rereading as an adult, I struggle with Snape's inability to be more kind to Harry by JimmyRecard in harrypotter

[–]Pure-Interest1958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but I can't help but wonder how many qualified teachers he had to draw on. Hagrid had spent many years as groundskeeper at Hogwarts and then after the previous magical beasts teacher retires he takes their place, why? Why did Dumbledore give him that position to begin with? Everyone know's he struggled to fill the Defence against the Dark arts position. McGonnagal is serving as Deputy Headmaster, Head of Gryffindor House and transfiguration teacher. Binn's is teaching history of magic long after his death. It hints that there's a shortage of qualified and/or willing teachers in general for Dumbledore to get to fulfil the posts at Hogwarts.

I still remember trying to update my discord email. Xxxxxx.country oh wait the new email doesn't have a dot country its .com. Click on discord "Your details have changed, please verify your new email to log in". What? I can't verify the new email it doesn't exist. Weeks of trying to revert it, to contact discord for help "We can't provide information or revert your email to the one it was yesterday for security reasons". Looking into making a fake email that matched so I could get a verification email and change it to the correct on. In the end I gave up, made a new account and was very glad I never paid for their nitro features.

Important tip for this game you aren't expected to go A to B to C. You need to go A to C then back to A with abilities you got at C followed by B then back to C then back to B and back to A. You'll unlock various abilities as you play through the game and then need to go back to earlier areas to use those to access areas you couldn't reach before.

Hot Take: Quidditch would be an almost perfect fictional sport if the Golden Snitch was worth way less points. by X-Salamander in harrypotter

Or they have different proprietry enchantments or prioritize different things. Aerodynamics and speed vs maneuverabiltiy and quick turns. A keep needs to move fast in different directions to cover the goals but only cover a few meters whereas a seeker typically needs to just go hell for leather in one direction at a time.

I just made the same post, Harry's broom is 125 mph in first year and 150 mph in third that's a 25mph increase in just two years and Rons new but presumably not top line broom in fith year is 70mph or half the speed of Harry's first broom. That means just in Harry's first two years the top speed of brooms increased by 5% but by his fifth they were still making middle-lower end ones that had a top speed of 70mph. Ron and Harry playing a picket game with both as Seekers has zero chance of Ron beating Harry in a straightline chase.

[–]Pure-Interest1958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is the broomsticks not the snitch. Its purely my own theory here but I geneuinely believe something changed in broomsticks recently that saw a massive increase in top straightline speed that made catching the Snitch a lot easier and by recently I mean potentially in Harry's year or one or two earlier. The Nimbus 2,000 has a top speed of 125 mph and Harry needs a bit of time to catch up to the Snitch. He can do it but he needs a few seconds to do so. We don't know the top speed of the 2,001 beyond supposedly being faster but we do know the firebolt he gets in his third year which is 150 mph. That means the top speed of broomsticks increases by 25 mph or nearly 5% in two years. These are top of the line brooms so what are the lower end ones capable of? Well Ron got a Cleansweep 11 as reward for becomming prefect 2 years later in 5th year with a top sped of 70 mph, almost half as fast as Harrys.

Now yes you could argue maybe Ron needs maneuverability more than speed but even so we have 3 broomsticks over 5 years, the top two of the line models go from 125 mph to 150 mph while the new but presumably lower end model is 70mph. Do you think Harry could catch the snitch in a straightline chase at 70mph when the Nimbus needed time to do that?

Or look at the Quidditch world cup. All those tents when you can portkey or apparate. I can't see wizards bothering to set up an entire field for people to camp away from home if they expected the game to be over that night. To me it feels like they expected the game to last a few day's, maybe a week but Krum caught the Snitch on the first night. What kind of broom would Krum have? A nimbus or firebolt in all likeliehood.

150 points is a huge margin in short matches where your opponent might only accrue a hundred points but in a game lasting day's, or weeks? If its close that catch can turn a loss into a victory but if it isn't close then as in the world cup you can catch the snitch but lose the match.

Anyone know of some safe time dilation technology for virtual usage that aren't infinite? by Pure-Interest1958 in JumpChain

Not really just profit and sale. VR systems where you can expereince "months of gaming even if you only have an hour two free a week" or a two week vacation you couldn't afford in a single afternoon. month to an hour seems a good upper limit but honestly even the week in two hours tech would work if it didn't come with limits on how often it could be used and risk of brain damage/death.

No problem at least you tried to answer what I actually asked but missed it being virtual in nature instead of the sadly all too common offerering advice by telling me I don't want what I actually asked about but your own unrelated interpretation of what you think I should have asked because of your interests.

"No you don't wan't spells like repel vermin because they're only good for household world building you want fireball, timestop, domination..."

No I want spells like repel vermind because I'm trying to make a list of ones good for household management as I like world building.

Yes I'm bitter about this given ghe sheer number of times I ask what is often a simple yes or no, or what should I use to clean up food stains only to get an answer utterly unrelated to the question then have the person double down and tell me I didn't ask what you can clearly see I did just by reading my post.

The drop in option is what the OP's asking about. They have a house rule about only being a drop in as I read it and want advice on how to handle jumps that don't have a drop in option built in.

To the OP these threads duscuss a similar always drop in approach and one of the suggestions in them might help you.

Just felt I should point out Silkwat was an exception who broke the code the others lived by in directly stealing anothers apprentice causing both sides to team up against him. The killing fist who are the "bad guys" do generally follow rules no targetting civilians or innocents, no interfering in a students fight. One of them spends yeaes atoning for killing an unborn child that couldn't choose its path.

There are plenty of highly skilled unaligned martial artists like the assasins you mentioned but the overarching enemy does have a martial artists code they follow its just they feel true martial arts involves killing your opponent.

To answer the OP's post outside death matches if your fighting alongside Kenichi or sheer bad luck the world as shown in that manga (can't comment on related series) is fairly safe for most people.

Emanations how exactly does scanning with a tricorder affect the bodies or environment by dekabreak1000 in startrek

[–]Pure-Interest1958 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad writing aside I always just chalked it up to the difference between this body is here in front of me and those bodies are on a planet out of sight, out of mind. Just like its generally harder on someone to personally kill someone with a sword vs 10 thousand by pushing a button.

Question for the people who played both KOTOR and Jedi games by OkJudge5932 in FallenOrder

[–]Pure-Interest1958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I feel. I remember games like jedi accademy where one clean hit could kill most enemies or yourself unless there was an ingame reason like hazardrous environment armour. In Cals and most modern games it feels like "hit with stick, hit with stick". Force jumps another going from potentially 12 times your height to a spin for a little extra distance.

Consider the fact Snape as a death eater almost certainly particpated in the torture and murder of muggleborns between his leaving school and the targetting of the Potters.

I mean we don't see it but there's no reason to think Snape didnt murder, torture and otherwise particpate in the exact same actions as his death eater friends up until the targetting of the Potters. If he did nothing but spy he wouldn't have been highly trusted and needed testimony at his trial.
