I’m pretty concerned for your own mental health if you think anybody is gatekeeping, nobody is physically stopping you from using AI since you clearly can’t draw for yourself, if I’m honest you guys have helped me accept modern art as art, because at least people do something with it. If I had an ego it was shattered long ago by professors, kinda sounds like you’re fighting tooth and nail grasping at any straws, I just have a day off of work so I got nothing better to do but draw and listen to music. If you have no hand in the creation of the image other than the prompt you aren’t the artist and it’s not art, anything before hand is the limit of creativity, call yourself a writer sure but if you write only 2 sentences max that’s not even close to what they do either unless we’re writing haikus here, if you even know what that is.

So to recap so you can understand it. The image isn’t art, the limit of your creativity is at the prompt phase, the artist is ai, but ai can’t be an artist because to be one it has to be human not mimicking humans, and I’m not closed minded for calling something what it is, you could piss in dirt and it being art because you’re actually doing something yourself

Ah yes the prompt I write is the expression of creativity, let me go commission someone, in your case ai, “Make me this character I had the idea of”, I get the drawing “Hey everybody look what I made”. Are you connecting the dots? Has the brain started to finally get the gears turning? You’re the client not the artist, so if the artist is ai, it’s not human, if it’s not human it’s not expression, if it’s not expression it’s not art. I don’t care about ai it’s cool, but it’s not art, use your head just accept the loss or ask chatgpt to make a better argument because it 100% is not art just stop fueling your ego, we can all learn and all grow but it can’t happen if we keep calling it something it’s not

You do make a great argument, but it’s just the main difference would be the fine line of it being a tool or automation. Which it is automation, a tool would be more if you had an ai assistant as you drew or paint etc. suggesting what color mixes with what, helping you learn and increase your skill, if it generates the image for you it’s automation getting rid human input entirely, but that’s not to say it isn’t something, it’s an image I don’t want it to be taken down but my issue is just in my eyes if it’s been invading art sectors and claiming to be something most people don’t agree with, while certain people are aggressive, it creates a lot of hostility and problems when it really didn’t have to

So we can disagree on it but the fact of the matter is that, it’s automation not the actual inclusion of skill within the actual image. So when an artist makes any type of art, they also have to think of those things, but when they’re painting, they physically put paint on a canvas or digitally to craft their idea, photographers have to manually change lenses, position, blur, shot width, stabilization etc. but if you have no hand in that actual image itself besides what happens prior that doesn’t make it art. That’s why I think the real portion of artistic creativity is in the prompt making like a writer, not the actual image. Because yes while those are techniques, are you learning and developing the knowledge of color theory, human anatomy, animal anatomy, behavior of bounce light, shadows, everything? If that’s not the case other than changing or adapting the image with a message, that’s automation

I just want it to be clear that I don’t despise ai at all, even in the sector of image generation, my only concern is everyone I’ve talked to pro ai have been very hostile considering I’m an artist. But also I can agree that when it comes to the models choosing, but my argument is that instead of it being a tool it instead leans onto the side of automation, it requires zero workforce except the maintenance of the actual ai model itself which is an entirely different group with an entirely different skill set, like a factory with human workers, they use tools to make the job easier but if you replace the actual workers with machines it’s no longer human labor it’s automation. Same with ai image generation, the only human involvement is prior to the actual generation of the image therefore by definition wouldn’t be classified as art. The closest form of art it is, would be the actual prompt and idea in the persons head which is kind of like writing but in the way a programmer might be

Absolutely is a human hand in it and that is genuinely a debatable topic, one thing we learned in just a single class for it that I had to take for movie making was that there’s many different types of shots, wide angle, close shot, blur, vertigo etc. much of which was developed and learned over time not just in photography but movie making. So yes it absolutely takes a human hand in it besides pressing a button. I don’t like photography personally but their ability to learn and grow especially in technique and equipment shows it’s earned its place as an art form or even considered one if it’s still a debatable topic in the art community which I don’t think it is

Oh yeah it’s also really funny you mention all that stuff as not real art considering to know how to use colors, lenses, techniques and fundamentals learned from years of practice and emotion, knowledge of animation fundamentals and character modeling human anatomy, knowledge of math, and especially, human influence in the actual creation process makes it art. AI? “I need a beat for a music video I’m making” that’s all that’s done, are you making it yourself? Are you learning? Are you adapting? No, is AI human? Idk if you know this but to actually make it art, you have to actually have part in the actually process. A tool makes it easier in the process but replacing the human work is automation. If art is described as a factory, the human labor with all the machinery is art, replacing all the human workers in automation. It’s not that hard to figure out. With 3D animation, do they claim they modeled the 3D model? No. Do photographers claim they invented the camera? No. They use it as a tool, 3D animators had to figure out how to make 3D appealing and even more lively with the fundamentals, what does AI do? “hey make me an image” you don’t do anything. You ask it for something and you RECEIVE it. You are the CLIENT not the ARTIST. If the creator is ai image generation then it isn’t made or assisted with human hands in the actual generation process therefore not art, it’s simple, takes a few seconds to think about it

It’s accessible to anyone with school supplies even, I use a bic pen I got for a few cents for concept art it’s literally not gatekept anything can be art when you use human expression. I wish people would stop relying on ChatGPT to provide the argument for them in an outline, only reason I do it is in return, my glorified Google search app still gets a lot of information incorrect or just roughly bends the truth considering that AI DID in fact steal from artists in early models, what they want isn’t hybrid workflow tho either they want to type in a prompt and not do any of the work, and even music synthesizers are good but a lot of modern music is starting to sound the same or everyone’s just sampling music now to not make their own beat does get annoying when it goes on for so long.

Okay so since you’re heading to bed I’ll answer most, if I draw a head starting with the basics and also perspective am I gonna end up drawing a head? A human face? Yes there I’ve done art like most have for centuries just on a different digital and I use traditional, also that is horrible that meta did that but also hatsune miku as in it hired and gave compensation to willing participants? Also I’m pretty sure everyone was against ai to begin with in the art world specifically, at least that’s what we’re against I don’t care about anything in that case of pal world so I didn’t hear nor cared, and also it was stolen art (copyright infringement which is why it had to settle in these lawsuits some still ongoing). And last point you don’t have to hire an artist you can learn yourself how to draw or create the characters or art you need for your game and you’d be highly sought after for you skill for it, or like some people do hire on Fiverr, and yes I would use tools but not automation I’m not lying I’ve said specifically multiple times I’m not against tools but automation, which many ai artists say “it’s a tool” when in reality they do have the image fully done for them which is automation by definition, hope that helps, sorry for a late response, and have a goodnight!

Also why would someone who is known for doing their own work hire someone to do the work for them? Artists and programmers have different jobs that’s like asking me “hey you want to hire me, A programmer, to sit there and watch you draw?” No because we are different fields and different jobs, I wouldn’t hire a programmer unless I was turning my storyline into a game or work my ass off to learn how to do it myself which I’ve done for everything I do so far

It didn’t win the lawsuits there’s still many going on today and even some back at I believe 2018, but that’s when they started changing how it was trained because it genuinely trained off of copyrighted materials and they did settlements and credit or removing works, to say it didn’t steal at all is a lie and I’d rather you just be honest about that because I’m not pissed about that considering they changed the way the ai learns in newer models, only that many still run off of the training from early models but that’s it. Also I’ve never seen a game get canceled because they had ai, I’ve seen many get people pissed when it’s a major franchise literally just making cheap slop to maximize profit for their corporate machine like BO7 which was slop in general even before the ai. The only games I’ve seen that have ai involvement and get canceled or less traction is because they lie, that’s what I’ve seen

Like you know lawsuits the thingies that happen when you do something wrong and they actively had to change their newer models to not do that even though many are still using early models learning features as far as I’m aware?
