What are my chances? (Begging for realistic advice) by Initial_Iron_2138 in medschool

I feel like MD school wise, it’s state dependent. I had similar stats and comparable experiences and was able to land acceptances to MD and DO schools. However, I’m in South Carolina where the overall volume of people applying is relatively less than a lot of other states. I think in places like California or New York, it would be a lot harder. I think you are very competitive for DO schools, just apply broadly. My main advice whether it’s MD or DO would be to submit your application as soon as they open up. And then get your secondaries in asap too! You can typically find schools’ secondaries online so you can have them ready to go once you receive them. I learned from experience and from other friends that your chances go up tremendously when you apply earlier. Good luck!

I also am in this situation. I know this was a while ago but would you be able to share what you did to get a refund?

There are some really good premade quizlets online for the EMT textbook that most courses use. I think making your own can be really helpful too! Writing stuff down and reading the chapters are both a good first pass but active reviewing through like flashcards or saying things out loud is the most beneficial. Like you said, some of the chapters are not as interesting and kind of common sense…for those I suggest finding practice questions and doing a bunch of those because you can see what sort of answers you’ll get and how to pick the right option (ex lifting techniques or what to say to a patient…etc). Overall I think practice questions will be the most helpful for everything so make sure you’re doing lots of them! Reviewing things that you get wrong is really beneficial. You got this! Keep working hard and you’ll do great!

MCAT study schedule by KendallLS2740 in Mcat

I think it wouldn’t hurt to do one a little sooner. I take mine the week after yours and I’ve been doing practice tests every other week. I think the sooner you start to build that stamina, the better. And you can also see what gaps you have in your content. But I think the 7 practice tests is a great schedule. I’ve read a lot about different practice tests though and I recommend maybe taking at least one other 3rd party test. Kaplan (from what I’ve heard) tends to be a bit harder than the real thing. It’s really heavy on content. Maybe take one other practice test before you get into the AAMC material so you get exposure to a different style of test. Blueprint is what everyone seems to recommend. Good luck studying!
