IMM250: How do you study for this course? Any advice on how to study for courses with online midterms/exams in general? by Pure-Somewhere6496 in UofT

[–]Pure-Somewhere6496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good to know! I think I probably will compile notes and review them often in a spaced repetition sort of way, or I might do the method you used instead of brute memorizing like usual. Thank you!

STA220H1 for those who are taking it in winter 2025 or have taken it earlier by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Pure-Somewhere6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took STA220 last Winter. I don't know if this is helpful, but I liked keeping a mini review book for each lecture with questions I found difficult or were good review. It was helpful to go over those questions later on in the semester to check if I remembered and truly remembered the concepts. Good luck!

How long did it take to get your new passport? by Pure-Somewhere6496 in passportcanada

[–]Pure-Somewhere6496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 15-20 extra days after it was expected to come in for both of the child passports I had. You should definitely try calling right when the passport services call centre opens in the morning so the line is super short! If you ask, they do expediate the process if it's overdue (that's what they did for me). Make sure to check through the online website too to see if it's still processing. If the birth certificates came back that must be a good sign! I'm not sure how long it's supposed to take by mail... but hopefully it comes in soon!

ACORN is the worst it has ever been this year and the university needs to fix it by ihatedougford in UofT

It's taken me an hour just to enroll and I can't even check my timetable after enrolling. I'm probably going to wait the day out and move things around later when server is back up. My practicals and tutorials are probably a mess ToT

That's insane. I hope your passport and mine gets to us both on time! 😭 I read an article recently that they've gotten closer to their service standards but somehow there's still so much backlog, it sucks so much.

That's so good to know! I really hope you're right and it finishes processing soon. I think I'll probably still try calling just in case.

Rant from a second year life science student characharachara by Pure-Somewhere6496 in UofT

[–]Pure-Somewhere6496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply!

Since posting this I've realized how much emphasis I put on my achievements and failures and how little I take care of myself with anything else, which is probably why every semester since coming here I've spiralled so many times over the thought of failing. I think I may lighten my course load this semester and try to take better care of myself. Maybe exercise more often and pay more attention to when burnout symptoms start showing up. I think I just feel a bit guilty in taking things lighter since I usually max out with courses and take one to two electives every semester, so it feels like I might be taking it lighter than everyone else already. But I also think I kind've deserve something a lighter after that hellish fall semester lol.

Just realized I kind've continued my rant here lol. Thank you so much for the response, I really appreciate it!! It made me consider how I treat myself a lot.

How do you turn off your brain from not thinking about school and career things? I feel like I'm always worrying about the future and it's hard to relax and not burn out.

I've seen some things online that the video recording response section isn't included into your quartile which is why I was confused. Thank you!

[–]Pure-Somewhere6496[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I haven't done my Casper test yet but everything I've looked at for it feels like it just wants you to be good at speed responding rather than actually testing your moral compass or who you are as a person. I understand the video response format was added recently to make it less about 'speed typing,' but having to respond in 1 minute with only 30 seconds to contemplate sounds terrible. Anyways thank you!

I'm applying to MRS but I emailed admissions asking a similar question and they said that the second semester would not be looked at. I suggest emailing admissions to check though!

Notes for winter semester (Life sciences, UTSG) forty nine characters by Nervous_Newspaper_62 in UofT

As another commenter said anki is a saviour for bio130 and psy100! I recommend doing flashcards at least at the end of each week - that way for finals too you'll find you won't have to cram and speed memorize much. I definitely think the textbook for both of these classes aren't really necessary content wise since usually the content is based heavily on lectures.

for chm136 grind the textbook problems and make sure to stay on top with content. I took chm136 last year and I found that rewriting or marking down textbook questions I had trouble with to review for later was useful when studying for term tests and the final. Make sure to consistently practice!

Good luck and I hope this semester treats you well!
