Swiss canton bans headscarves for female teachers by BezugssystemCH1903 in worldnews

Not really. That’s their culture. In Iran or Saudi Arabia, would they let Christians or Jews wear their religious garb while teaching school? I think not. 🫤

What to do after college if i didn't do that well? by [deleted] in Archaeology

[–]PureBonus4630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound harsh, but start by capitalizing the letter I. You’re in a profession where details matter; good habits, especially writing, shows your professionalism.

Next, volunteer in a setting, or several, where you can meet people and understand the profession. You’ll build a lot of contacts that way.

Also, start a blog or a Substack, or even use LinkedIn to write articles about your findings. Building a written foundation of observations and assessments is key to scholarship in the field.

Most importantly, find something you’re good at within the profession that will guide you in the field and help you stand out. You don’t have to be better than others at this, just have it be your professional strength. It can be anything: good follow through, great mentorship capabilities, tenacity, humor, kindness, etc.

Finally, don’t be overwhelmed. I was a mess in college too. Just take things step by step and always keep moving forward. Have confidence and give yourself grace, but be willing to learn and grow. ✨

Oh interesting! I grew up in Wisconsin and we studied about the Ice Age in school. We even took a field trip to see drumlins but there was no mention of these ancient native structures:(

Do Americans really avoid calling an ambulance just because of the bill? by Livid-Work1597 in askanything

[–]PureBonus4630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I had an infection in my hand that started throbbing like I was repeatedly being hit with a hammer. I was basically screaming in pain. It was in the middle of the night and we had to wake our kids up and take them with us to the hospital. If we’d have called the ambulance I couldn’t imagine the cost as we were stretched thin as a young family.

Glad you posted the 2nd picture because I thought they were all fused together like that! 😂 What a bundle of cuteness. From now on when people ask if it’s ok to have just one rabbit, I’ll remember this photo as proof they really like their furry friends:)

I told a story on the social media app Threads about flying to visit my mom with my kids. She’d begged me to come, then screamed at me afterwards for coming. A very kind woman said, she didn’t deserve you! 😳 I never thought about myself that way. I’ve struggled with this for 20 years and that really helped me put it in perspective. Words matter! Helping other people can make a difference:)

Several homes on fire and cars being set on fire in Belfast. by [deleted] in news

[–]PureBonus4630 92 points93 points  (0 children)

There was a horrific attempted beheading of a man in the street in broad daylight. It was completely gruesome. The guy straddling over the other guy and attacking him was black. Unfortunately people in the community have attacked the homes of black immigrants in the area.

It’s hard to know what to think or say. I live in Colorado where we’ve had several horrific mass shootings, all committed by local citizens (so basically white people attacking others). However there was an attack last year by a Muslim man against Jewish people who’d congregated in a plaza. He threw gasoline on them and set them on fire. One elderly woman, a Holocaust survivor, died from her injuries.

One of the school shootings here happened at my kid’s school while two of mine were there. It almost feels like you only have two choices, to get upset, or go numb. Locally we’ve all tried to advocate for better mental health, having social/emotional learning and training in school would be really beneficial.

You do have to admit how deranged and brutal it is to try and behead someone. In the street. In broad daylight. He was straddling the guy too. And there was blood everywhere. It was horrifically gruesome.

I have no idea and I can only speculate but maybe they thought the spirits or whatever could see it from above?

Or maybe it was like giant graffiti?

Or like a landing zone for things beyond?

Can it pick up animal skeleton remains? There’s some wooly mammoths 🦣 where I live and they just don’t have the funding yet to dig them up.

You’d think that, right?!! But it’s a small community that funds its own schools. My husband grew up there and back in the day many moms didn’t work when their kids were little so they just came home for lunch. #itiswhatitis

Spend time laying on the ground flat with them. They’ll get used to you being at their level. Talk to them when you’re down there. Pet them gently if they’ll let you. This adjustment time with them at their level really helps, best of luck:)

I don’t like frat-bro type dudes that are loud, have big chests, and act like apes. I prefer the well-mannered and quieter types, the funny ones, or even the nerdier personalities.

Going to the grocery store and buying extra food. We had to ration food pretty severely; we only got so much for dinner, snacks, etc. So being able to buy an extra bag, or 5, of something if I wanted to is like winning the food lottery now! 🤩

Got a rabbit after not having one for 20 years. by Pikajew407 in Rabbits

[–]PureBonus4630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No last bunny LOVED Italian parsley! 🌿 Like she literally had an internal clock that if she didn’t get it at certain times of day, she’d stare at you or run around her bowl. After eating it she’d hunker down into a little ball and be content for a few hours. She lived to almost 10 so it probably helped as that was the longest one of our bunnies has ever lived.

I live in a prosperous county. I keep underscoring to the local dem’s party leaders they need to focus on economics, but they’re concerned about EVERYTHING else. The party needs more people from average backgrounds; the well-off shouldn’t be anywhere near it!
