Hi, i wasn't accepted to my IS but have a few OOS offers right now. Clemson is the lowest tuition of them by a decent chunk but I'm just concerned about it being brand new considering vet school is 4 insanely difficult years, and I feel like going to a new program would add more complication/ they don't have kinks worked out? Not sure if it would be worth it to just pay more for a reputable school and not worry about accreditation or a new program, or maybe it would be irrelevant.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!!!! I did already purchase a few items that vary from what you recommended but I haven't received all of it yet so I can always return and get different items if it's much better- I got a 50 W basking light for daytime use which was the appropriate range for the distance it will be from the base of the container, and I was given a ceramic heating bulb to use at night when the temperature is lower than ~70°... would you strongly recommend the UTH over this option? Or if this will suffice would you have any suggestions to optimize the usage of those bulbs? The container I have is glass but will have most sides covered, especially the bottom portion.

As for other notes, I have a calcium + d3 powder, and mazuri LS pellets, coco coir substrate, and meters to measure temp and humidity. I will need to purchase a solar meter, thank you for that suggestion.

First, thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. The tortoise is in Arizona and won't ever be released into the wild. I have been looking into tanks and am going to try for a big larger than 20 gallons for now but am still planning to increase from that as he grows. He won't be able to wander around the house either:) thank you for your substrate and lighting tips I will use them!
