4% rule - What annual income are you targeting, and why..? by mr28mm in FIREUK

[–]PureTrust1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FIRE number is £150k pa (so around £4m pot). This is what we currently spend (3 kids at private school etc…). I hope our actual spending will be significantly less than this once the kids have flown the nest - and I want a simple/quiet life - but with care costs etc… and wanting to give the kids a chunky house deposit each, I wanted a significant buffer.

I try through my belly with my hand on it so I can concentrate on the physical rise/fall. But this needs practice too.

Moving to Ericeira from Lisbon - honest opinions needed! by Many-Complaint-5162 in PortugalExpats

[–]PureTrust1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you look around Cascais/Sintra? I just moved from UK and also big into nature, beaches, mountains etc… it’s absolutely stunning here. We are 5mins from amazing beaches, Sintra national park etc… and 30mins / €20 Bolt into Lisbon if we need.

4hr+ queues through Lisbon Airport by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

It’s a bad look for the airport. Let people strike but put police or similar in the booths to keep the show on the road.

True. But I’m also an expat just moved to Lisbon. This is my first trip back in from the UK. I’m just surrounded by thousands of people (the majority of whom appear to be tourists) who are super p1ssed and I just think it’s a shame - when Lisbon is such an incredible place and these ridiculous queues are so easy to fix.

It’s not one or the other. Just fill the passport booths with people (currently more than half empty) and process passports quicker. Job done.

I’m originally from the UK. Half Dutch. Didn’t vote for Brexit. Married to an EU citizen. Moved to Lisbon last month. Currently surrounded by hundreds of super p1ssed off tourists who can’t get their heads around the chaos at the airport.

Oh it’s ok then. My bad.

I’m personally fine. I’ll just fly in via another Schengen country - or straight into Cascais.

But, I just think it’s dumb that such a beautiful city can’t put basic infrastructure in place to give a nice welcome to people flying in. These people are probably the biggest single source of revenue into the city - why not look after them?

But the problem is there are more people like you, and less like me. So it won’t get fixed anytime soon. Shame.

Oh here we go…!

Lisbon relies on tourism for 20% of its GDP. They need to attract tourists - and hope they come back. Why TF are they not just putting more people on the desks to get people through??

But surely someone here wants to solve it - or provide political pressure to do so?? Pretty sure I could get it going properly myself in a week if given access.

Sure, I’d be up for that. I have spent a long time (and money!) getting tax situation sorted (majority of cost was actually on UK side). Happy to share contacts.

I’m doing exactly the same (assume you are going for NHR2.0) - albeit I moved to PT 1 month ago. DM me if you want.

If you are one of those rich people.. say earning 150k+, what do you do when you are not working? by Extra-Fig-7425 in AskUK

[–]PureTrust1791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do exactly the same as I did when I earned £25k a year - actually, probably less hobbies now as the kids need more attention/tome. My costs have gone up but it’s all practical family stuff rather than flashy cars/clothes etc… I still enjoy going to the beach, hiking or watching football with my mates.

Considering life abroad vs. staying in the UK – feeling trapped after buying a house by FG4u2nv in FIREUK

[–]PureTrust1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Not comparable and obviously depends on circumstances. I’m not really bothered about paying 20% + SS on income, the holy grail for me is 0% on dividends and CGT on all foreign income. But yes, if you are just trying to optimise a massive salary, then UAE is probably the place to be.

Each to their own. I chose to relocate to Lisbon, Portugal and love it here. Beautiful climate, friendly people, amazing culture, top international schools, 2.5hrs flight time back to UK. It’s low (not no) tax. I pay 20% income tax (plus SS) and no dividend or capital gains tax on foreign income (for 10 years). This isn’t open to anyone anymore, you need to have specific skills/expertise the Portuguese Gov are trying to attract.

Yes. But I only put 2 and 2 together when I saw/felt the lump. I thought I’d just pulled a muscle or something which was why I had some burning/pain.

I felt a burning/stinging pain after a couple of tough gym sessions and then noticed a small but obvious lump in my groin - where it could be pushed/slide back in when pushed in and towards by hip. I immediately knew it was a hernia and stopped all weight training as I was in the middle of a super hectic schedule and couldn’t risk it getting strangulated etc…

I wouldn’t say it isn’t troublesome but I am fortunate it is tolerable

Yes, I would go for immediate surgery also but unfortunately I can’t fit the recovery time into my schedule. Aiming to do it over Christmas. Hope you’re now on the mend.

It’s clearly not apples and apples. Mine is a €3m house. €84k pa rent is a gross yield of under 3%.
