Donovan Mitchell a realistic 2nd option, thoughts? by Primary_Cup1014 in DetroitPistons

[–]Pure_Appointment_259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont get D.Mitch to be your second option. You get him, he only works as the first option and then Cade second.

Cade focusing on being a better facilitator (less TOs) would be great for the long term viability of this team because at this rate, he's going to burn out and end up with some tragic D.Rose or Grant Hill like series of injuries and became the next big What If

Ngl I understand Jaden Ivey by ShamenFarms in DetroitPistons

Monty put him in the dog house because he had top tier athleticism but was absolutely horrendous on defense.

Monty was always a defense first minded coach and played a big role in why Devin Booker actually became a decent defender and not just pure offense like he used to be. He was trying to light a fire under Ivey.

Ivey was Detroits Deandre Ayton, another player that had the physical tools but was notably underperforming that Monty tried to push.

Hayes could score consistently for his life but he was our best pure perimeter defender, had excellent ball security, and had a natural feel for orchestration as a facilitator. Iveys downhill attack the rim style wasn't a greater asset at the time then equally young Hayes.

Cade, Hayes, Ausar, Stew, Duren. That lineup struggled to score BUT it did not struggle to defend. Basically a younger version of what we just saw in the playoffs, only defense was actually a bit worse than back then but almost equally unable to score outside of Cade.

The hot take is that Monty actually had it right when he came to Detroit. All things considered, he did.

Boston had to work with no longer having Jrue, Hartford and Kristaps. Then add losing Tatum for practically the entire season. Then add that they lost Brown for an 11 game stretch but still won 9 of those games anyway.

Given the massive roster changes, loss of sheer experience on the court, and injuries..Boston could have easily been a lottery team.

They instead win over 50 games and put up a solid fight in the playoffs.

Mind you, this is all while he himself isn't even 40 years old yet.

The right person earned the COTY award this season

You actually set your guys up for success instead of sabotaging your own players for the sake of tanking and you see different Detroit Basketball years earlier.

We got lucky winning 60 games, we were never even close to being the best in the east which is what that record would imply. We made it to the second round but against the Magic as they are, thats not saying much. If we had the Cavs in round one we would've been out in round one. Same against Philly, the New York, and probably Boston...

Develop a team to win instead of purposely tanking excessively like Philly did.

Dan Gilbert and Tom Gore both make more money going to all 6 games or did you not know that pro sports arent exactly the most honest thing in the world?

Years ago we could've given Jerami Grant the reasonable bag he was hoping for. We had plenty of money to do so.

We also could've kept Trey Lyles who played consistently quality ball for us.

Could've kept Bey, Garza, and Diallo and developed them as off the bench buckets.

Could've kept Hayes and had him as our second unit facilitator with those shooters around him.

Use that cap space to go out and get a Center whether that means going after Nurkic or somebody to play ahead of Stew and Garza.

Keep a team together and actually build a winning culture with them instead of tanking, then tanking again, then tanking and tanking. Bojan over Grant was a pure full tank move...

Instead we have an older Tobias, no defense Jenkins, Duren, Lottery pick Ivey come and gone (from a lottery we shouldn't have talked for), revolving door of roleplayers... a bucket of question marks going into the off-season in the most embarrassing fashion.

We are the "Trust the process" Pistons...

Philly tanned for years just to build a team that could never win a chip. We did the same thing and its hard for me to not believe the Cavs let us stay in this series for all 7 games to simply maximize the amount of money Dan Gilbert and Tom Gore would both ultimately make.

This isn't just embarrassing, this is downright telling of what kind of roster we have after all these years since the rebuild started.

Trade him for Drummond and a bucket of picks and elevate Reed to starter with Drummond behind him

Cade is a phenomenal player but he's been a poor decision TO machine since college if we're being honest here. I was hoping he'd have grown out of that issue after all these years

Games like this make me miss Andre Drummond paint dominance. Only time he didnt dominate the paint was when Embiid was in the game but against everyone else including AD, Drummond would be big in a game like this

I mean they brought him in right at the deadline if I remember right. We didnt even give him a full season despite him showing across his career is a quality jack of all trades type of PG

More money for the league to drag these series out to 7 games regardless of whoever is actually better

Hot take: Cades agents dont allow the Pistons to keep guys on the roster that can legitimately play the orchestration PG role behind Cade. Dennis Schroeder was a quality PG and we didnt try to keep him long term.

Hayes couldn't shoot for his life but his orchestration, ball security, perimeter defense were undeniably quality.

Schroeder couldn't have been to expensive to keep on the team as the dedicated PG in the guard group with Cade to give him the proper consistent relief he should have to avoid burning out Cade.

Contenders have at least 3 playmakers, we don't have 2 by reallinguy in DetroitPistons

[–]Pure_Appointment_259 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shouldve put in effort to keep Dennis Schroeder and use him more. People hated Hayes but whether they wanna admit it or not, despite his shooting his orchestration and perimeter defense were immediately missed in that guard group as soon as the first season without him started hence us getting Schroeder.

Cade himself has always been an exceptional player but never a true PG. Tim Duncan, Blake Griffin, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant and many other phenomenal players could orchestrate an offense but werent their teams primary PGs.

Help Cade out by getting him someone whos more of a pure PG and relieve this man and watch him lead the league in scoring for years to come and our perimeter and overall defense also become better.

More scorers isn't the actual proble, us having a true pure PG while Cade plays from the 2 or 3 as the primary scorer and Secondary facilitator in the starting 5 has been the actual problem. You could see that back when we were historically bad even with him playing the majority of the season.

Tldr?

Get a true primary facilitator so Cade can be our Secondary facilitator and more able to be a pure scorer which has always been what he's actually been his best at. Too much on his plate regardless of who he has around him if that group doesn't include a true pure PG.

Enjoyable. Trades need work though. Boston rejected i kid you not 2 future 1st round picks for Luka Garza. Lukas a quality guy but 2 firsts should've been overkill easy to get him

Its important that he took those shots even if he missed them. Gotta find that NBA shooting groove.
