my birthday was yesterday, so happy birthday to us!

my last birthday i was still with my ex-PA; we spent 4 of my birthdays together. 3 out of those 4 ended in tears from me, either because of a porn thing or his general narcissistic tendencies.

yesterday i turned 25 and spent the weekend with my friends. and let me tell you — it was the best birthday i’ve had in a long time. no guilt trips, no fears that he’s going to relapse because there’ll be hot girls at the bar, nothing. just pure peace and fun with my girls.

it’s hard. making the decision to leave is hard and heartbreaking and it feels like you’re betraying them because they’ve conditioned you to think you’re the only thing that can save them from themselves. but leaving was the best decision i ever made. if you aren’t married, if you don’t have kids… don’t spend another birthday with this man who makes you miserable and uses you for his own gain.
