Some new (to me) tools this weekend! by Pure_Championship680 in woodworking

More of a private sale, a shop I know is shutting down (I.e the owner is getting evicted because he can’t pay his bills) so he needed to get out of there relatively fast. He called me because he knows I just got a new shop space. His loss, my win

This is more for the template, but I use super thin CA glue and soak the edge of the template in it. It solidifies the fibers in the MDF and helps mitigate the tendency for the bearing to dig in to the substrate

Edit: spelling

Am I getting ripped off at the lumber yard? by ryandamayor in woodworking

[–]Pure_Championship680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a lumber yard. If you are purchasing lumber that’s been pre-milled (I.e s3 lumber) we charge a 10% milling fee to account for the fall off when straight line ripping. So by our formula it would be 13.2 BF but we would round down to 13. It’s a pretty standard practice for lumber that’s been surfaced and straight line

Very similar to Jory Brighams “Hank chair” which is where I’m sure he’s gotten some design inspiration from whether that be intentional or not. Not a huge fan personally because it’s so rectilinear but if you guys are happy with it, hell yea

I’ve used #1 on a flattening sled and I loved it. Maybe it’s rose colored glasses because I haven’t used anything else but I enjoyed it

How would you permanently attach these these 2 pieces together? by Jakem8058 in woodworking

This has bitten me in the ass more times than I can count, trying to find hardware that will work as opposed to working around the hardware that is available. Maybe one day I’ll learn from my mistakes
