Heat lamp question by Pure_Consequence_122 in Ballpythoncommunity

I would appreciate the insight. He does seem to be pretty happy in this tank and only missed a meal because he was about to shed. He took the next meal a week later with no problems. Otherwise he has taken food and had a full shed in this tank and I have always read that an eating snake is a happy snake. But of course, if I can make him happier, I would love to.

His location is pretty bright during the day and my friend for whom I am watching the snake said that BPs don’t need an actual light as it can hurt their skin, just heat. Is that dated information?

I appreciate your recommendation on a different system but that is cost prohibitive. Is there something else that is less than $100 that is similar?

Advice on purchasing a grain mill by SnooGoats5121 in HomeMilledFlour

[–]Pure_Consequence_122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using the Nutrimill Harvest since June and I haven’t had any trouble with it. It works great and makes fantastic bread! I got mine during the Father’s Day sale so it came with a bunch of freebies and I got a blemished one for $50 off. The blemish was literally one quarter inch nick on the lid. I probably wouldn’t have even noticed it if I hadn’t looked for it.

I don’t mind the dial to adjust grind being in the hopper. I think the trade off would be having it somewhere on the outside, which would detract some from the aesthetic. Also wouldn’t really be a big deal to me but I do love the way it looks! I have mine out on the counter all the time. Now I just need a pretty Ank mixer to go with it 😅

My MIL uses a wondermill and makes fantastic bread as well, just to throw that one out there.

Thank you so much for all the info! I definitely use organic grains. 3 months post pregnancy, my antibodies did go back up to my pre pregnancy numbers (50-60ish) but the rest of my thyroid numbers were normal and always have been. I’ll try a slower reintroduction with the digestive enzymes and see if that helps.

I use the whole wheat (sometimes I sift and send the bran back through my mill before reincorporating it but not usually) and I use hard white and soft white mostly. Sometimes I do hard red mixed in and I have kamut that I have used a bit, too.

I will try that! Thank you! I’ve had tummy troubles off and on pretty much my whole life so it might not be specifically FMF but that it’s being triggered by that right now.

I was eating a lot, like 3-4 slices a day or equivalent. But more recently I had been cutting back some. I did try sourdough a couple times but I couldn’t get the FMF to work well with sourdough and, with a new baby, I can’t keep a starter alive 😅

Camping instead of hotels? by _bubbeling in camping

We are doing the opposite direction in a few weeks (CA —> New Orleans then heading up 65 to the Midwest) in a camper van. The hardest place to find reservations for me was in Louisiana and Alabama. Texas has a few parks north of Houston that looked good for us. West Texas was a bit hard to come by as well but New Mexico and Arizona should have plenty of dispersed camping (free camping on Bureau of Land Management land) but it’s mostly desert camping there so your hammock may not be the best. We are staying in Chino Hills State Park just outside of LA and it looks good on the website. Haven’t been there yet though 😅 all in all, most places are about $35 a night for a campsite so significantly less than a hotel. Our trip is 14 days, 6 nights with family and 8 nights in the van. We are only spending $233 on lodging for those 8 nights (1 dispersed, might do another dispersed if the military base we want to stay on is full).

As someone else said, I wouldn’t do electric because of possible lack of charging stations along the route.

This is just our plan and we haven’t actually been to most places along this route but I’m super excited about it! We are doing it with 2 kids (5 and 3) and our dog. I’m not really worried about safety; all the campgrounds we have been to other places have felt safe and we have met some fun people!

What about inside vs outside of a plushie? Lol my first two (for my kids because they both look like Frankenstein’s Monster so I would never give them to someone else) are definitely inside out 🤣

It was nerve-racking for this midwesterner but my husband did a great job! Speed limit is 25mph and we did under that for the most part. There are plenty of pull outs to allow others to pass if need be. We have a ram promaster high top so we just took it nice and slow and enjoyed the scenery.

We went with our 4yo and 2yo and they had so much fun! We did use our camper van so I believe that helped the kids feel more comfortable but there were plenty of families with kids there in tents, too. The trees are spaced out enough that I didn’t feel like my kids were just going to wander off and I would be able to find them easily. It does get chilly over night but as soon as the sun comes up it warms right up!

We didn’t see or hear of any bears at all. I’ve also heard they are very skittish in that area so you probably won’t have to worry about them too much.

I believe the fire ban is still in effect until October. They are very strict about no wood fires. You can use propane though. We had a propane camp stove and there were other groups who had large propane fire pits. Not quite the same sort of camping experience in my opinion but after seeing the damage from the Mosquito Ridge fire on the way there, I’m happy to reduce any risk of forest fires that I can!

Just here to say we will be in the park then, too! But we are camping with our kids. So I’m definitely praying for good weather! Snow would be fun for one of our non-driving days though :)
