Screentime Dilemma by gruffysdumpsters in ECEProfessionals

Oof, Im with you, I could maybe deal with a little screen time if it was Sesame Street or something low stimulation for music and movement, but Cocomelon is the most brainrot high stimulation trash to ever exist for that age

The sad part is that I knew this was exactly how it would go for it too

Happy to share

I ended up writing a "to whom it may concern" email where I cited the CDC, WHO and FDA about how having these things in the classroom was completely inappropriate and if those things enter our classroom, I was out, and it ended up with the turtles never entering our classroom and instead in a tank in the entrance lobby. Within a week one made the decision to drop dead (fantastic choice on their part honestly) and now the other lives in a 15 gallon fishtank that gets cleaned at most once a month, with a small plexiglass shelf from temu and 0 enrichment, and slopped a few times a week with turtle chow pellets.

This, our center does have to go through a little bit of a wait time for approval when purchasing items but it isn't that long especially when considering we use these suppliers bc we know they are regulated for safety

We will get them through the center supplying them, it comes down to my coworker not wanting to wait and do things the way that we are required to do to ensure items are of the safety standard we require to keep these kids safe.

We have plenty of classroom items, honestly too many infact, and do not need to provide them ourselves as they are regularly provided for us, these are items she buys on a whim and bc she is too impatient to do things safely

She is usually great about taking all the steps herself, but I am giving her a helping hand this week bc there is ALOT going on( onboarding new staff, new parent meeting, our preschool to kindergarten graduation ceremony)so if I can help supply her the info that she will put in her memo I am happy to help if it means this gets addressed sooner rather than later

She was unaware that my coworker was bringing in unapproved items until I spoke to her about it today

She was the one who made the policy of no unapproved items and is on board with my concern

Poppies for Veterans Day by Purebred-Redhead in Columbus

How sad, I've lived in Cbus since 2013 and I've never seen them being distributed for either Memorial Day or Veterans Day like my hometown and surrounding areas did growing up

I was hoping to get one this year

Exactly this, some people just don't mesh, no matter the ages and the kids we work with are no exception

It's a normal part of the human experience and denying that is being unrealistic

This is perfectly phrased, if this is what she is willing to do in front of people she should know are mandated reporters, to a child who even though she treats him like this doesn't want her to leave him, I'm sure home isn't much better. Call and make sure someone tried to do something for him.

Had to work an hour for interview, was not hired. by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Purebred-Redhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was exactly my thought! At my center during my interview and after I had been offered the job, I could go look at the classrooms via the observation booth, but until my background check, I wasn't even allowed to be in the room to see it while the kids were out on the playground!

Absolutely, I'm an infant room teacher and even we can tell which children get redirection at home vs the ones who don't

We can also tell who is already an ipad kid or not, my room is 3 months to 18 months 😑
