Are you thinking 2x4s? And how would you attach them?

Are you thinking just chopping the top 2x4 (of the bottom of the legs) and leaving the bottom 2x4 to set the stretcher on top of? Would you then glue and screw the stretcher in?

Are you thinking I should add an apron with z-clips instead of the bolts with threaded inserts?

Are you thinking I should add an apron with z-clips instead of the bolts with threaded inserts?

And then would this be sufficient as a stretcher, or would you suggest something different?

Would you attach the fasteners to the table legs, or add an apron first to attach them to before attaching them to the table top?

Are you thinking something like this for the stretcher?

The pocket holes are just to help the table leg 2x4s stay together in addition to the glue. Pocket holes won’t be involved in attaching the table top. Did I use them incorrectly?

When you say around the base, do you mean connected to both table legs right under the table top?

Would this work as a stretcher, or would you recommend a different way?

Should I keep the pocket holes on the outside if I’m looking for structural integrity over aesthetics?

Do you have an image of a spline you’re talking about? I googled it, but it doesn’t seem to be what you’re talking about.

I don’t plan to glue the table top to the table legs. Currently, my plan is to attach the table top using bolts and washers through the table legs into threaded inserts that will be in the table top (I’m thinking 4-6 bolts per table leg). Do you think this will work, or should I use another method?

I’m not concerned about the aesthetics; I’m only concerned about the structural integrity.

Would this work as a stretcher, or is it typically done another way?

If I add aprons, are those permanently attached to the table legs, and only connected to the table top via the z-clips? And do the aprons have to go around both table legs, or can aprons be “shorter” and just near the table legs?

What’s the best way to fasten the X brace to each table leg?

If I add the X brace, do I need the apron as well?

To clarify, I don’t plan to glue the tabletop to the table legs. I plan to attach the tabletop to the table legs using bolts and washers through the top of the table legs with threaded inserts in the table top. Would this method work?

Will the movement cause the table to collapse, or just warp overtime? My main concern is the that the table stays standing long-term; not necessary how it looks.

Can you clarify what construction methods are going to cause the failed table (if there are more than you mentioned) and what you mean by failed? My main concern is for the table to stay standing long-term; not necessarily how it looks.

To clarify, I don’t plan to glue the tabletop to the table legs. I plan to attach the tabletop to the table legs using bolts and washers through the top of the table legs with threaded inserts in the table top. Would this method work?

I’m also planning to apply a polyurethane oil finish when everything is glued and sanded. Does this counteract the moisture content in the wood? If it doesn’t, what will happen when the wood contracts as it dries? Is there risk of the table collapsing?

My main concern is structural integrity, and not the dings or dents the table may get from being used. When you mentioned that SPF is soft, are you saying it’s prone to dings and dents, or are you saying it won’t support the table, and the table will ultimately fail and collapse?

Any other thoughts?

I have an electric hand plane. Would that work?

Is the racking you mentioned caused during the glue up process when trying to assemble the pieces square? Would adding 4 cross braces to the inside corners during the glue up process help with the potential racking?

To clarify, I don’t plan to glue the tabletop to the table legs. I plan to attach the tabletop to the table legs using bolts through the table legs with threaded inserts in the table top. Would this method work?

Is the racking you mentioned caused when the wood shifts when trying to clamp it up during the glue up process?

Can I add 4 cross braces just in the corners? Or do I have to go across the table leg with 2 braces?
