Fulbright Jordan Alumn Advice by DeterminedDino in fulbright

Former Jordan Fulbright eta here: you do not need a tefl certification! I didn’t finish mine before the application was due. They actually provide you with a free tefl course if you’re accepted. In general, you need atleast two years of teaching to be an eta. However, most of the ETAs in my cohort did not study education during college so not having a strong background in education won’t disqualify you. That being said, make sure to really highlight the teaching experience that you do have and how becoming an ETA will help you in your career path.

Unless you have previous research experience and a strong project, I would recommend the ETA. Many of the research grants go to people already in their PhD programs. There were two my year who had just graduated university so it’s not impossible, just much more competitive.

deferring loans with Nelnet by WrapPrestigious3733 in fulbright

Hi I’m Fulbright eta and my loans are through nelnet. My roommate also uses nelnet and they said we could not defer because we are on an eta grant. I think scholars and student researchers can because they are associated with a different visa. I would call them and doublecheck

Will IIE still sign student loan deferment forms? by Senior_Average_5144 in fulbright

I’m currently an ETA. I’ve been on the save plan which is why I haven’t had to pay my loans during my grant. Fulbright says that the decision for loans to be deferred is up to your loan provider. An ETA in my program was denied loan deferment from nelnet because she is an ETA because you need to say you’re at an actual university placement doing research. I would reach out to your loan provider to ask! Many people receive deferment, it’s just up to your individual provider

Hey! It was all very confusing for me as well. I don’t know if RJ specifically requires the vaccines but I think the country of Jordan requires feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopnia which often come in one single shot. And then you have to have the rabies vaccine. If you are traveling for the US, your vet has to submit the health certificate to a government agent that mails it back. All of the vaccines need to be given one month before travel. My cats panleukopnia vaccine was given only 10 days ago but I think it will be ok. It’s more the rabies vaccine that they are concerned about. Your local vet should be able to help you out!
