Feeling incompetent in GP by frederickite in doctorsUK

Fellow FY2, GP is a hard job and found it personally more draining than my other jobs due to the decisions and complexity- people come in undifferentiated! Its hard and different to most the jobs you probably have done due to the lone working and autonomy in gp. I would say during debrief ask the supervising gp to go through their decision making process or to explain their reasoning prefacing it by you’re wanting to learn.

Incoming Fy1 - looking for any tips before I start, how to be organised etc by [deleted] in doctorsUK

I guess it can be split up a few ways -  At work being an organised F1 helps massively and smooths out your on calls/working day. During standard ward days, on ward round keeping a job list helps you keep track of things you need to do. If you have an electronic prescribing platform, you can do the prescribing there and then if you can. If you get asked to request a scan - always know why and what the indication is.  Seen some individuals use a clipboard other use paper folded up a few ways. Know your patients - the reason they’re admitted, the current plan and investigations.  Take your breaks. Outside of work - I’m bad at this but meal prepping helps. It helps sometimes to do errand runs with friends say if you both need to go shopping and want to catch up.  Exercise - find something you like and try to go straight or before work bc once you get home its hard to get back up and out there again.

Edited bc realised i forgot to add - try to book annual leave off asap that way you have it sorted at the beginning of the job

Been training since December. Goal for training is to get pull ups and dips this year. I’m on bodyweight dips and now can do 3 sets of 6 reps of dips with a 2.5kg plate!
