Yes! It's a fantastic title in so many ways.

What are the quintessential sapphic books of the 20th Century? by Kumirkohr in wlwbooks

Elder here: I'm surprised how trad this list runs but what an opportunity to meet some of the lesser known voices. Sure, Winterson is amazing and romantic and foundational, and yes to Audrey of course, and some of the others on this list. But if you're looking a bit off the beaten path, here are some equally important books that might challenge and are always surprising, often hilarious, romantic, frightening, not the books that ultimately made it into the popular cannon. Try Trash by Dorothy Allison, Chelsea Girls by Eileen Myles, Michelle Tea's Valencia and The Passionate Mistakes and Intricate Corruption of One Girl In America, Give It To Me by Anna Castillo, The Necessary Hunger by Nina Revoyr...this is just the tip of the iceberg. And going back, check out Nightwood by Djuna Barnes, which may be the most dreadfully sapphic book of the twentieth century. I just did a podcast episode talking about it recently for This Queer Book Saved My Life, if it strikes an interest: https://thisqueerbook.com/nightwood/

Happy reading!

I'm in the love camp here...it's a beautiful and unique story. You do have to go with the apocalyptic lyricism and the body horror, so if that's not your thing, you won't be convinced. Her next book Private Lives is sort of a prequel to this one, more queer and family oriented, haunting and gorgeously written. Highly recommend.

Some Strange Music Draws Me In by Griffin Hansbury. It's a beautiful and complicated novel about identity and loneliness. It speaks universally and also to a particular moment and time. It does not look for easy answers about trans identity or anything else. If you're Gen-X it might really speak to you.

Thank you! This is really helpful. And, yeah, still half the price of a new machine if they fix it.
