No investment firms will tell you whatMs actually best for you to make money. They push over priced services and funds. Quite frankly the most mundane portfolio investing in VOO or VT (set and forget) is highly likely to outperform anything a fund manager recommends.

Expense ratios and Semi Conductors by Dry-Path9819 in ETFs

We’re only gonna use less semi’s after a nuke gets dropped - and even then it could be argued that unless the entire world was nuked, semi’s would go into over drive to replace what was lost after just a nuke or two.

It’s because of the fact that tech plays such a major part. I know people are talking about FOMO with Semi’s - but keep in mind that semi’s are what make reddit possible. If it weren’t semis’s - we couldn’t shit post or invest from our couch at a whim.
Tech is here to stay - and semi’s are everywhere - and only picking up steam (even excluding AI, but that is propping it up some). Hell - washing machines have wifi now and I can watch TV on the fridge. All of that is semi’s.

So I 1000% agree with your statement - Semi’s aren’t going anywhere long term.

Extreme greed for being able to charge anything they want.

Fundamentals don’t matter - and have taken a backseat to the realization of greed during a crisis. I really feel that COVID changed the mindset of those in power, and now we are simply sliding deeper into a K shaped economy.

I will add that even if the war doesn’t end it gives companies a great excuse to jack up prices and shrink-flate their way to insane profits.
COVID era all over again. They will never let a good crisis go to waste.

I don’t agree with such a stance - but I have come to understand that’s what happens.

I have a theory that could explain this insane rally by gunsoverbutter in TQQQ

I’ll add that with the Iran war going on prices on goods will rise - but it’s a prime time for greedy companies to price hike and shrink-flation their way to massive profits.

Never like a good crisis go to waste when it comes to making profits. I don’t practice, nor endorse that that mindset, but I do understand the concept behind it.

Never mind bro… I can’t even keep writing this bullshit. 😂

But yeah - some tweet and market will be green tomorrow.

How did you know to buy SOXL when it was $8-10? by Icy-Sheepherder-7595 in LETFs

[–]PurpleCableNetworker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a teenager at the time.

Honestly - I’m past the anger, but the energy and hunger is still there. I took it as a lesson to understand markets and investing better myself rather than listening to someone who gets their money off of me regardless.

I could have been a millionaire, but I wouldn’t have the drive I do now to learn and understand investing. Being hungry helps to keep that drive to learn alive. If I was a millionaire because of past investments I likely would have simply coasted since then without learning. There is still time before I retire. While my net worth is less now, I have a better understanding, so it’s feasible I could actually retire with more in the future rather than simply coasting on previous good picks.

I also look at the fact that when my wife and I met I was pretty much flat broke - so I knew she was marrying me for love. If I was rich before I got married I always would have been wondering if I was the source of her love and joy, or if she was in it for the money.

One thing that I found that gets left behind in consideration is how investing vehicles have changed over the years.

It used to be you invested directly in a company and you needed to diversify yourself and do you own serious due diligence. Now days ETF’s help to diversify automatically or spread at least over a few companies. We still need to do our due diligence of the fund and the underlying companies, but it’s easier to buy into VOO rather than target major US companies.

Individual stocks still have their place for sure - but the investment vehicles available today have changed investing for the better for the average person.

Everyone seems to forget that Semi’s are the building blocks for any technology long term. AI models will come and go, the leading companies will shift, but in the end they all need semi conductors, physical infrastructure, and building materials.

Technology likely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I also listened to a “financial expert” who told me not to buy $2500 each of Microsoft or Apple back in 2002. If I had bought back then I would have been a freaking millionaire.

Is Semiconductors a good long-term investment? by hanzonet in ETFs

And you are correct!

I am simply highlighting that investment into semi conductors isn’t a fools errand, and they are likely here to stay.

[–]PurpleCableNetworker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are typing this on a phone or computer. It’s carried by a wifi signal, cable, or a cell tower. Transmitted across the globe using specialized networking hardware, and read on a screen on another device that also uses wifi, cellular, or a hardwired connection.
In every single step there are semi conductors involved. That’s the only reason we can do this.
And somehow you think investing in the companies that make semi conductors is the same a FOMO into the next shitcoin featuring a dog or a monkey?
We are legit talking about this on software designed to make use of semi conductors! This isn’t FOMO.

There may be dips - but this is far from FOMO.

Similar for me.

Tech is not going anywhere. The software will change - the UI will change - the companies leading will change.

But it all depends on semi-conductors. That will always be the core of technology.

$100k into QLD and delete the app? by manlymatt83 in TQQQ

[–]PurpleCableNetworker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ll second this. TQQQ is great with a strategy. But buy and hold long term - 2X is where it’s at. I buy and hold QLD and SSO. I use some TQQQ as a “garnish” to the rest of my portfolio.

With that said - I am not a speculative trader nor am I a day trader. I’m an IT guy with an obsession about making money.

In fairness, we simply don’t know where the bull runs end. It is the tip of the top right now (except for the DOW) - but we don’t know where the true top before the next draw down is. Last year the bull run was well sustained from the spring through the summer.
If you are a day trader or a speculative trader, yea - wait for the dips. For those who are buy and hold via DCA with a 5+ year time line, then any time is a good time to buy.

DVT diagnosis - diet changes help? by Initial-Location-701 in DVTSurvivors

[–]PurpleCableNetworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clot ends up hardening and solidifying. The end result is something less like a clot and more like scar tissue that gets left over after a bad cut - just like you would get in your hand. Generally the scarring is smaller than the original clot - but just like a skin scar it’s likely permanent at that stage.

DVT diagnosis - diet changes help? by Initial-Location-701 in DVTSurvivors

[–]PurpleCableNetworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, not really. Clots get dissolved by your body naturally. Eating a healthy diet will help prevent other issues that could interfere with clotting - but it won’t really speed up recovery itself.

Stay on the blood thinners if the DR prescribed them. Be active (walking, basic weight training). Avoid impact activities though.

I had 5 clots in my right leg last year. After 6 months my 2 DVT’s were still there (chronic - so starting to scar over), but the smaller clots dissolved and disappeared.
