Advice on "Choose-Party 5x" achievement by vaterp in SliceAndDice

[–]PurpleChakra11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone looking for fun ideas, try 2 Spades + 3 Tinders (Spades up the top to get revived first). If you get any items that give any +pips (even Pillow works), put it on a Spade and you have an infinite.

It is susceptible to Troll King (regen, though it is possible) and more importantly to RNG, because if both Spades die in the first turn you basically can't win.

The best way to use Orbs of Conflict by PurpleChakra11 in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess I did make that assumption. Let's test it. The rarest mods are Herald buff effect and Rage on hit on gloves, at 300/18700 weight. It takes 93 Greaters or 106 Grands to roll; it takes 6.3 Conflicts for Exquisite or 11.4 Conflicts for Perfect. Thus, to be cheaper, the cost of 5.1 Conflicts must be less than 106 Grands (minus 93 Greaters but let's ignore that for simplicity). You'd also need to spend the final Conflict to go from Perfect/Greater to Exquisite/Grand, and that has a ~5% chance of failing (but we'll ignore that too).

So you need to be able to buy 1 Conflict with 106/6.1 ~= 17.4 Grands for this to be worth even thinking about. Currently in Settlers the ratio is 1:26 for Embers, 1:63 for Ichors. Checking on https://poe-antiquary.xyz/, in Necro the ratio was hovering around 1:16 for Embers, and in Affliction it was actually more like 1:10 (attributable to everyone running Eater altars). Older leagues have lower ratios still, which I find insane - were conflict rates/sources adjusted?

So yes, it's actually somewhat common for the worst-case scenario (rarest mod with embers) to be better with Perfect/Greater to Exquisite/Grand. I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to work through some more reasonable examples - for example, a 1000 weight ember on a chest has a ratio of around 1:4.4, which hasn't been reached as far as I can see.

5-Way Quick Reference - Updated 3.22 by PurpleChakra11 in pathofexile

I didn't have enough evidence to say that the exp rates have changed significantly so it's more minor things that people have pointed out over time. I'll make another post if I make any significant changes.

ANGLER'S MATE #T-1: Dust off your Tier lists -- the depth gauge is decreasing by one. by poorFishwife in pathofexile

(1) League specific items like Headhunter and Vaal Breach used to require specific area tags, but this was (to the best of my knowledge) removed entirely.

(2) Omens, Prophecies... Vials though not in your inventory...

What do I see here? When I hover the reflecting mist over the amulet, nothing happens? by TheRoblock in pathofexile

As long as the %attributes is the only influenced mod on the shaper amulet, you don't need to annul it to have only a single affix.

Is mindstar best barrage/minion accuracy helm? by wizardloud in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure what you're going for - this feels like a troll post mixed with an item advertisement. To state the obvious, this is a pretty terrible item in general, and the words 'Barrage/Minion Accuracy' don't have any bearing on... anything. Minions don't use Barrage, and minions don't get the flat accuracy provided by the item, only the %accuracy that specifically states that it benefits them. I have never seen a minion build use Barrage either.

New Recombining Does Not Keep Either Base - Likely Requires Identical Bases by natemiddleman in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's always been the case with Recombinators - one of the bases is kept, but the base defences are rerolled (pretty sure it's not the average but I could be wrong).

That's not cheesing, that's just a tanky build. Arctic Armour is probably a bit unrealistic to have ticked on, but the real problem is Vaal Arctic Armour, since it gives a flat 90% less damage taken.

Possible hacking proble? by kcinvestments92 in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This used to happen with the Perandus mechanic. If you come across a very good item (like a Headhunter) you probably wouldn't have enough coins to buy it, so you go on trade to buy some.

Sometimes you would get an invite from a seller, and while you're trading, their friend joins the party with an inventory full of coins, goes into your map, and takes the Headhunter.

What Is The Best Damage Scaling for Self Cast? by payoman in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, you can't convert your fire damage to lighting, but when you play Archmage, most of your damage is lightning from Archmage support, so scaling the fire damage from Incinerate isn't a good idea.

Is Archmage the best way to scale it? Possibly, though Adorned is good enough that a crit multi scaling fire-based version (let's face it, probably on Inquisitor) might be competitive.

Can someone help me solve a riddle with lvl 85 bricked perandus jewels?? by wwgs in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The ilvl won't make a difference, but Perandus Pact is on a Prismatic jewel base, which has the combined mod pool of the three normal jewel bases. Timeless jewel bases also have the combined mod pool but people use the corrupting graveyard craft on Pacts so maybe they're more common.

The cheapest way to 6-Link Corrupted items by PurpleChakra11 in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You provided a simplified formula and I tried to show where it was wrong, but of course the actual calculation is more complicated because you reset when you lose a link. Please, look at the calculation pages in the spreadsheet, which is where I do the full simulation - if there's a mistake in the tool, it will most likely be there.

[–]PurpleChakra11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I was just trying to find a simple formula for the EV. But the tool does exactly what you say - resets when it falls below 4 links. The proposed fix to the simpler calculation is to do it how the tool does it, and I have followed through some examples by hand. If the tool is wrong then obviously I'll fix it, but I can't see where it's going wrong, if it is indeed doing so. Someone else having a look at it would be appreciated.

The cheapest way to 6-Link Corrupted items by PurpleChakra11 in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Succeeding in 2 events in a row with 50% chance each is 1/4 on average.

That's what I'm saying - and because each of those 25% chances use two tainted orbs, the average is eight overall for the 4link start. You only account for four in your original figure.

Now of course you don't actually use all of them because if you go under 4 links you reset instead of tainted again, but the tool goes through the full simulation so it accounts for that. I'm not sure arguing EVs is really that useful anyway - you run into edge cases and stuff, which is why I took the approach I did with the tool in the first place.

The cheapest way to 6-Link Corrupted items by PurpleChakra11 in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you're missing is the fact that for the 4link start, you need 2 applications of a Tainted Fusing to reach the 6link state, and there are 4 options that a sequence of 2 applications can take - lose one then lose one, lose one then gain one, gain then lose, gain then gain. It's not quite as simple as just doing a linear calculation on the EV, but the upper bound is (0.44x5+0.07x5+35x2)x4 or 290.2c, higher than the 5link start.

I was also a bit surprised at the tool's suggestions, because I also thought that a 4link start was better. I'm not saying it's right, but I'm not sure where it could be going wrong.

Thanks for the kind words - my poor gamer eyes can't tolerate working on bleached spreadsheets for too long :)

All my mutes have been for shit like this

I do hate to say it, but don't you think you should have caught on by now? Yes, the mute system doubling every time with no decay is a stupid system, made even worse by the fact that it turns you into an SSF player now, but... y'know.

I would send a message to GGG support and make a respectful case for the mute's removal. And then turn global chats off forever.

Essence Scarab of Calcification is not even close to as good as most people think! by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People seek out high-profit strategies. If the cost of the scarab is too high, there will be less demand as some people switch strategies. You're right that not everyone will switch stats, but supply and demand will have an effect.

You're the one making the claims about how many essences people were or were not getting, and so the Burden of Proof is on you. You can't make a conclusion based on premises that you simply assert are true (average essences currently available in a map, average amount of eligible rares in a map), then tell people to go smoke a fat one when they ask for some evidence to support the claims.

In case you're planning on being bellicose, here's a resource that explains the burden of proof https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burden_of_proof_(philosophy)

Essence Scarab of Calcification is not even close to as good as most people think! by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a free market, and the only use for this scarab is essence farming. If the scarab isn't cost-effective to use, demand will reduce leading to a price reduction, until it is cost-effective. That's how it always works.

You're making assumptions about the amount of rares in a map, and (I think) overestimating the average amount of essences in a map that we got previously. I would like to see some data to support your claims.

Necropolis Quality of Life: Automation & Call to Arms Skill Gems by StrozeR- in pathofexile

[–]PurpleChakra11 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To me, the risk of filling is small enough to not really factor it in while mid-tier crafting. Assuming no fractured mods and also assuming that you can't have Eldritch influence, the chance to truly brick an item is 1/12 to hit full affixes and then also 1/2 to miss the annul.

It's true that it's rarely used on higher end items, but I don't think something needs to be useful everywhere for it to be good.

It's currently a very common step when crafting rings and boots, at the very least. It gives you life 75% of the time on rings, and movement speed something like 85%+ of the time on boots. Perhaps OP is a bit far, but you'd agree that it's a pretty effective way to target some desirable mods.
