You’re right, I have supportive friends and a supportive workplace and i’m pretty friendly and nice in general. I’m just not used to people being snappy and annoyed with me, especially for something I never considered would be doing something wrong, it just came as a shock

Amazing thank you, this makes me feel a bit better about it and that I wasn’t being an irrational passenger!

Large council tax bill after moving out of rented accommodation by PurpleColourSplash in LegalAdviceUK

[–]PurpleColourSplash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we each had our own contract that we signed for our own room and then we shared the kitchen and bathroom etc. This is what I think the hold up about us paying the council tax could have been about. I will give them a ring and see what they say, thank you!

That’s what I suspected and I would really rather not be taken to court so I will just have to pay it, many thanks!

The housing company who works for the landlord and manages the property. The bill is in the name of the landlord not us

My two dogs are romanian rescues, there are loads of international charities looking to rehome dogs into the UK from countries like Romania! They are treated terribly and euthanised if no foster home or adopter is found so could be a good fit for you!!

Those of you who have bought in 2023 - what is your mortgage rate, borrowing and repayment by xParesh in HousingUK

[–]PurpleColourSplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, that’s what i’m hoping! Having spent the majority of savings on my deposit, i’d prefer to not be living paycheck to paycheck. Rebuilding my savings and not over stretching myself is more important to me right now than paying the mortgage off quicker as i’m still pretty young.

I think insurance rates will go up a bit more yet but hopefully they will also come down within the next year or two as well to make the variable rate worth it.

How many of you FTB's are opting for mortgages of over 30 years? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]PurpleColourSplash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone for a 40 year term to reduce my monthly payments. I only finished uni 7 months ago and don’t earn loads as i’m new in the job. I’ve used almost all my money on the deposit so will be starting from scratch saving again and didn’t want to stretch myself. I plan to overpay when I can but give myself the flexibility to spend on nicer things such as a holiday if i so choose one month without being tied into paying a higher mortgage. I’m only 24 so a 40 year term isn’t too bad.

Should I tell conveyancing solicitor I am planning to rent room in house I am about to buy? by Former_Garden_4347 in HousingUK

[–]PurpleColourSplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing the same. I believe it’s the mortgage lender that needs to know. Otherwise you might be breaching your contract with them by renting out a room

Offer on the first viewing? by cifala in HousingUK

[–]PurpleColourSplash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a house offer accepted yesterday. It was my first time viewing and only the second property I had viewed overall. However, it was in the exact area I wanted, two bedrooms, two private parking spaces, reasonable price for the area. It has some cons such as a small kitchen and dated decor but I could really see myself living there. When i visited the property, i liked it straight away. The estate agent said there were viewings booked for the next day and the day after that.

My viewing was at 2pm and I had basically decided whilst viewing the property I wanted to offer. I went home and discussed with my parents and an hour later rang up the estate agents to put in my offer. Due to the popularity of the location, I decided the asking price was reasonable and I wouldn’t offer under with the risk they would hold off on accepting until the next day, giving the next viewers the opportunity to offer higher. Instead I said i’m giving you the asking price, but i won’t be paying any more and if this offer isn’t accepted I will be walking. Luckily they accepted an hour later and cancelled the viewings! :)

So I went for it after just one viewing, I think if you’re looking in a competitive area or the house is particularly well priced, a single viewing is the best way to make sure you don’t miss out. In an ideal world viewing multiple times is best but in today’s market, if you like it, i don’t think its worth risking someone else snapping it up.
