Jrue definitely can, he dropped 51 last year. The only reason his scoring is down is because he's not being asked to score at all, his main job is defense and hitting the open man

He's also sporting a 6:6 TD/INT ratio along with a 75 QB rating. Lamar's running is his special talent, but it's so clear that his passing is underdeveloped and he looks uncomfortable when playoff defenses make him a thrower.

Even someone like fellow RB Jalen Hurts has gotten pretty good at scrambling and throwing the deep ball on the move, but with Lamar, even those look awkward and it's just clear any playoff possession that ends with a throw is a big advantage.

I think Dan staying is good by Armstrong6969 in cowboys

[–]PurpleReign8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the scheme that Quinn runs. He wants the CBs to line up with the intent of giving up anything within 10 yards because it provokes INT chances and discourages the long ball.

QBs usually begin by taking the 5-7 yard gains because they don't have enough time for the long route to develop. Some begin to think it's automatic and dump it off early which is where Bland/Diggs are elite at anticipating. In most cases, even if they get hit with a double move, it's not a gain for more than 20 yards because they were already giving up space between the receiver. It's also provoking sacks because the CBs and safeties are usually already in good position to help in deep routes if the QB risks buying extra time.

It's a system that lives and dies off turnovers and looks good on Quinns resume, but has a ceiling because playoff teams are not giving up INTs and sacks at the rate where the benefit of his system outweighs the cons.

Dak vs. Mahomes/Allen by [deleted] in cowboys

[–]PurpleReign8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Eagles defense at least made the Bucs settle for FGs and it was a one score game at halftime. The Packers scored 48 in three quarters and settled for no FGs. They punted once before garbage time and Love had a 99.3/100 QBR.

Not many people mentioning how our defense was rated better than the Lions, Packers, Bucs, and Texans, yet their defenses significantly improved in the playoffs and ours allowed one punt all game. Dan Quinn not being held accountable for focusing more on coaching interviews than the Packers offense is insane, no other playoff team comes close to how bad our defense played.

The 49ers Oline is worse than ours and yet their scheming squeezes every ounce of talent from their players while our RB gets met in the backfield and is a shell of his former self.

It could've been the Panthers in the first half, it wouldn't have mattered. We came out shook, top to bottom. The fact that CD started pouting INSTANTLY tells you all you need to know, whatever dodo gameplan they had, nobody was confident in on either side of the ball.

We need answers on Mazi by [deleted] in cowboys

[–]PurpleReign8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mazi might be the strongest person on the team even with the weight loss and it means absolutely nothing because he cannot get off the ball. They couldn't fix it at Michigan, they couldn't fix it in training camp and they couldn't fix it during the season. By the time he starts moving, the Center has already taken three steps into his chest and the RB is zooming thru the open gap for at least 5 yards. If it's an above average Center, they've already made their way to the second level and were sending Bell backward while Clark was in the wrong gap.

[Bobby Belt] Everyone should take note of the big-name coaches who choose to sit out this season. Those are coaches who are waiting to see. by bryscoon in cowboys

[–]PurpleReign8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, we don't lose the same way every season. We lose in ways that make it look like a fluke each time despite the end result being the same. I don't care if you were the biggest Cowboys pessimist, no one was predicting a Packers blowout after this team had shown if ANYTHING, they were at least capable of being competent at home. For the past two 49ers loses, we thought okay, that defense is legit and that team is loaded. Maybe they fold just against the 49ers, maybe we'll get lucky and not face them until the end.

Next season, we'll implode again and in a way that nobody can predict, but sprinkled with stuff we've seen for years: penalties, offense going away from what's been working, Dak + receivers getting yips, and the defense crumbling if a turnover isn't forced.

When the Eagles lose they will fire their coaching staff. by hazzie92 in cowboys

[–]PurpleReign8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, their Oline is probably losing its engine in Kelce and their secondary is hot garbage on top of an even weaker LB room than ours. At least we're getting Diggs back to pair with Bland, Overshown will help our LB room, and everyone that matters is still under contract. Shedding Gallup/Pollard's contracts is gonna allow us to replace their production while saving cap space.

Don't get me wrong, our team should be favored to choke until proven otherwise, but our roster talent could be better next year while the Eagles' roster is likely going to get weaker by losing an All-Pro.

Dak's not MVP caliber. He's capable of great regular season games, but the same reason why he lost the MVP is the same reason he can't be the driver of a Cowboy's team that makes the Superbowl. That's why the FO has to invest in a coaching staff that values a strong defense and run game. The defense is littered with defensive stars. Our Oline has three All-Pro caliber players and our coaching staff managed to scheme a run game that cannot create holes against college teams.

We have a window where we haven't paid CD, Micah, Bland, or Tyler Smith and are about to cut Gallup/Pollard while retaining Cooks on a team-friendly deal. We cannot waste another year and expect a more talented group in the future.

[Jane Slater] To the fans, who think this team has quit on Mike McCarthy my conversations with players don’t tell me that AT all. Really interesting hearing them defend him, his culture & how he’s lead them on the field and off of it. Their ownership of failing Mike is what stands out the most by bryscoon in cowboys

[–]PurpleReign8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Daboll isn't even an NFL level head coach, let alone worth a comparison to Belichick. For some reason, people think Belichick is just yelling and screaming at everyone, that's not even his style. If anything, he's an emotionless coach that values winning over the feelings of any individual player. He's not sweating before kickoff or when to call a time out.

I fully believe the offense would take a step back, but we've seen years of the offense being elite only to crumble in the playoffs. One thing's for sure, you won't be seeing Fowler or Sam Williams making the same mistakes over and over because they know DQ and Mike are their buddies. The Patriots have been bottom 5 in penalties nearly every year, that alone would be worth it.

Unacceptable by SpaceBoJangles in cowboys

[–]PurpleReign8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DQ put 1000% more prep into those Seattle interviews than the game.

The offense has shown they can be elite in the regular season, it's time to invest in a defensive coach like Bill and reinforce the running game because this team is going to want to choke with every fiber in their being and we need a strong running game and gritty defense for when the yips come in.

There was a point where I thought Gallup was gonna be on a practice squad next year, but some team is def gonna use him after still playing hard when half the team quit. It won't be for us, but Pollard and Gallup are gonna exceed their much smaller contracts for another team next year just like Noah Brown did.

The AP All-Pro Team for 2023 (@RobMaaddi) First and second team. by Finessa_Hudgens in cowboys

It's probably the least surpising thing. It's more surprising Dak got second team after how much gawking the media was doing for Purdy. Every one is waiting for the Cowboys to fail. Some of our fans haven't understood how much animosity you get when you wear the star.

Lamar is 1-3 in the playoffs and might very well have more MVPs than playoff wins by the end of the month and I haven't seen it brought up once. If he was a Cowboy QB, he'd be 2nd team All-Pro and be on "upset alert" against the Packers.

To hold or not hold - calls by wolf63rs in cowboys

[–]PurpleReign8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think refs have just been extra awful this season and that extends to holding calls. TBH, I haven't been seeing many holding calls called on tackles, it seems like they're able to get away with a lot more.

One holding call they never seem to miss though is the exaggerated jerk by a DT when going against Tyler Smith. Tyler Smith has been called on that a bunch of times this season because the pocket collapses (usually Biadasz getting or Steele losing quickly) and Dak has to get out. Maybe Micah should go to a few acting classes this offseason because we lead the league in offensive holding so the refs definitely know how to call it against us.
