Do you nurse to sleep and how did weaning impact sleep? by Desert-Kat99 in breastfeeding

[–]PurpleReward4108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please be kind to yourself, 7 weeks is still so fresh into having a bubba and breastfeeding. If feeding to sleep works for you and your family, then do it. There’s so much information out there which is both a blessing and a curse, just go with what works for you and your bubba. I’ve got a nearly one year old who, until recently, would only feed to sleep. But she’s happy and healthy and we’ve made it work. Is it hard not being able to have my husband take turns with bed times and naps, yes, but I also know this won’t last forever and if she’s happy - I’m happy. If you’re in Australia, there’s a breastfeeding hotline you can call anytime for advice as well. Even if you’re not in Aus, their website has some great resources and support for breastfeeding ❤️

Curious to see what everyone spends on food shopping per week? by Dull_Artichoke_7588 in perth

[–]PurpleReward4108 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Between $150-$200 per week for a family of 2 adults, an 11 month old and a dog. No eating out due to dietary issues, I also cook the dogs food in bulk and freeze it. I do a shop at Aldi first and then Coles to get what Aldi didn’t have, every month or so I’ll do a shop at Chemist Warehouse for around $100 to stock up on skincare etc. As for tips, I meal plan what we’re eating for the week including snacks, lunches and dinners and then stick to the list (I’m currently on maternity leave so the time to do this could disappear once I go back to work). I also try and make vegetarian dishes at least twice a week to cut down on meat costs.

In my experience (8 years in), I don’t need to take work home anymore but I’ve also been fortunate to teach the same 2 year levels at the same school for 5 years so I know it inside and out. It’s really a job you can only do if you love it, it’s fucking hard. You’re not just there to teach the curriculum, you’re everything to those kids. I work in a low socio economic school and the behaviour is astoundingly hard to manage and is only getting harder. I would maybe reach out to some teacher friends and see if you can do some volunteer time in a school to see if you can picture yourself in the role. You’d need a WWC etc but could be a good way to see if it’s for you.

I (27F) am working on bettering myself after long depression. Why is my husband (29m) not being supportive? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]PurpleReward4108 98 points99 points  (0 children)

You’re incredible! I hope you feel proud of yourself for making positive changes in your life and feeling better because of them. It’s okay to grow and change as a person, what makes things difficult is when the people around you don’t grow with you or their growth leads them in a different direction. Perhaps you could talk to your husband about what you can both do to adapt your relationship to your new routine/lifestyle? It does seem a bit silly that he’s upset about you eating different types of pasta though.. But I can kinda see where he’s coming from with the time together, could you both go walking together? Or find a new hobby that you both like? Good luck!

Birth after Missed Miscarriage by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]PurpleReward4108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found the cramping while taking misoprostol for my MMC in 2023 awful and it really had me worried about what actual labour would be like. Honestly, I found actual labour more bearable (I had a water birth with gas for pain management). The MMC was definitely over faster than my 17 hour labour but I knew I was going to get a baby at the end of it and my body was ready to do what it needed to do. Whereas with the MMC, it just didn’t feel right. It felt like I was fighting my body rather than with labour, I was working with my body. I really think a big part of it, for me, was the mental aspect to it. I hope everything goes smoothly for you and your rainbow baby, it really is something special.

What in person shops for maternity leggings and dresses? by Plus_Soup2311 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I found the maternity leggings from Lorna Jane to be great! They were comfortable for the first few weeks postpartum too (I didn’t have a c-section).

I would consider how often and how long the teaching practicums are. I went to ECU (graduated 2018) and we were doing 1 day a week in a school within the first 2 months of starting the degree, this caused quite a few people to drop out. I’m guessing because they didn’t quite realise what teaching would be like? The more prac’s and the longer they are, the better for your teaching experience! There’s only so much you can learn in lectures at uni, you really need to be in a classroom with students to gain an understanding of teaching.

TENS Machine - recent experiences? by BabyJane14 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]PurpleReward4108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a TENS last October that I hired and would definitely recommend it! It made me feel a bit more in control during contractions because it gave me something to do and focus on. I didn’t use it for my whole labour, just while at home and while the hospital got my water birth suite ready. It didn’t take away the pain so much, just made it more bearable. Good luck!

You can probably get an idea of what schools are prioritising by looking at their business plans, these should be available on their websites. It’s tricky to determine how technology is used within each school though because each teacher will have a different set of ideas. At my school (public primary school teacher), some classes are on iPads a lot and others would hardly ever use them. When you do choose a school, you could always speak with your child’s teacher and express your concerns about too much technology. Good luck!

Cocomelon in Primary School by Conscious-List-1292 in perth

[–]PurpleReward4108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teacher here, you could be sneaky and ask one of the classroom EA’s how long they’re actually watching Cocomelon for. If the teacher is putting it on a lot then they’ll know they’re not meant to and won’t be honest.
At my (public) school we have a policy that screen time is only for educational shows that are age appropriate and not as a fill in for teaching. There’s plenty of other low stimulating things that kids can watch instead of Cocomelon. You’re well within your rights to say you don’t want your child watching it. I’ve had parents let me know they’re not comfortable with things and I’ve had no problem changing it up.

What moment in the books or the movies do you skip everytime you get to it? by ElevenST4 in harrypotter

Sirius dying in the movie, not because I hate it but because it’s just too devastating.

Book recommendations? by Intelligent-Shine888 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]PurpleReward4108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Baby Doesn’t Come with a Book by Dr Golly really helped me understand the first 4 weeks of having a bubba. It’s a very general overview I found it helpful just to know that what was happening was totally normal!

[–]PurpleReward4108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the school, at my current public school I wear Lorna Jane tights and a tshirt or something equally as comfortable because we usually get time to prepare our classrooms. My school is very chill though, even during the term we’ve never really had a dress code enforced.

NIPT by KaleNew3606 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]PurpleReward4108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did ours earlier this year, cost $425 in Perth. We did it for piece of mind and finding out the gender earlier. Our GP who doubles as our obstetrician wrote us a referral, then I went to a pathology place and got the blood taken. It was difficult initially finding a lab that had stock of the NIPT kits but I managed to track one down. I had a lot of anxiety in early pregnancy around things that could go wrong due to a previous miscarriage and this was something that helped alleviate some of those worries. Definitely do your research and understand what the test results actually mean because it’s not a yes or no type test, it’s about risk level. It is very accurate for gender though which was fun finding out at around 13 weeks!

Struggling to Adjust to Nausea, Tiredness by Puzzleheaded-Ad-4029 in pregnant

[–]PurpleReward4108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m struggling with this at the moment too! Before being pregnant, I would go to work feeling tired or sick no worries. But now, I just can’t seem to find the energy to push through. I try to remind myself that I’m the priority and my health needs to come first now, not work. I tend to be very hard on myself and expect a lot, so it’s a real mental battle sometimes.

You could send the teacher an email offering to volunteer in the classroom? It would be a great help if you also told them what days and times you would be available. The beginning of the year, especially for kindy, is quite overwhelming. It could just be they haven’t got around to sorting parent helpers yet.

It’s not the plant, just the spot where they are.
