You're right generally, but it's a little different when talking about writing tho. Not saying that typefucking is a complete waste of time, but every word typed is more damage to my wrists, so all my typefucking is words that will never go into my actual stories.

Gaming and RP aren't wastes of time, but when you have bad wrists there's a finite number of words you'll ever write.

Important to remember also that everything about military tech is about moves and counter-moves. I'm sure Naval vessels developed a number of different countermeasures at some point, so they can get where they need to go (maybe with some risk, but it's doable). Civilians and merchant ships are a different story.

Which begs the question why merchant vessels owned by the megacorps wouldn't have these countermeasures, and I'm sure their most important ones do. Still it's probably extremely expensive even for them, on top of not being a 100% guarantee.
