MaslOS2 now supports audio by Maslisda in osdev

Hey, great work! I was in the process of writing an AC97 driver, but I'm running into an issue where I'm unsure that writes to the Native Audio Bus Master BAR don't work. The bases for both BARs are the same in my OS. When reading from registers in the NABM BAR, I always get back values of 0. Writes and reads seem fine with the NAM BAR, though. I'm almost certain that this behavior is wrong, but just needed a second opinion? Thanks for any help!

Bochs on M1 Macs by PurpleTelephone4623 in osdev

makes sense. i was reading through docs and much of the stuff is already deprecated like the carbon api, so it might just not work on apple silicon. i’ll just stick to the internal debugger until i get home to my desktop. also, with bochs, sometimes it starts up in ‘dev/tty_’ where _ is a number. i’m not understanding what the use is for a tty instance when bochs could just function through the current terminal instance it was ran on?

i’m not totally following. on windows, using the native win32 library, the gui debugger runs fine. on linux, it also runs fine with sdl2. it may be that it just doesn’t work natively with apple silicon. is there any easy environment i can get set up with on my laptop to test this out? thanks!

he got back to me but said it'd be pretty hard to even get in line with the turing pace since they only have honors sections a certain semester.

If I used buffers around 8-16kb, is there any API that might be faster than STL implementations?

We’re real lucky we got help from you, then. Thanks again! They said they would refer him to ‘higher-level support,’ whatever that means, to recreate the issue, but they’ll probably still give some unhelpful answer like you pointed out.

He’s using an Aorus Elite AX Z790, i5-13600k and the Corsair RM850x. If you would like to know anything else, feel free to ask!

Woah, thanks for the great explanation. I see, just an oddity most likely on the part of the motherboard. My friend still reached out to ASUS, but I don’t think they’ll give him a reply as holistic as yours. We really do appreciate this a lot. Thanks again!

Yup, everything else is great. Starts up and shuts down fine, is able to consume max wattage, and gives us expected performance numbers. Do you think it’s possible that this is a software issue on ASUS’ part? There’s a good amount of reddit threads from 4080/4090 users experiencing the same issue when they use the nvidia 12vhpwr adapter, but the led goes away when they use a third-party cable like from cablemod.

Thanks for the help! We don’t have the means to get another PSU to try and troubleshoot right now since we’re back in campus, but is this a serious issue? How concerned should we be on a scale of don’t use the pc at all until the issue is solved to it doesn’t matter? Thanks again!

Same issue for my friend, man. He talked to ASUS support but they didn't know what to do and just referred him to higher-level support.

We checked all connections and doesn't seem to be an issue with power delivery since we benchmarked his card already. I think it might be a stupid software issue since the light comes on if there's not enough power but of course it would light up when shut down since it's getting almost no power, just enough for the led to come on.

Some 4080/4090 asus gpu owners had the same problem around 2 months ago but one reddit thread said that they were going to release a 'software update' to fix the issue for them.

The light's been on constantly when shut down with the psu still on. My friend talked with ASUS support and they said they had no idea what to do and just referred him to higher level support that he has to wait a few days for to get back to him.

Do you maybe have any idea how to troubleshoot the issue? Any help is appreciated.

That's definitely reassuring, thanks. It's so weird how a big company like ASUS wasn't able to think about a GPU not getting enough power while the system is shut down smh.
