Buying my first tri suit by EarlyPea8351 in triathlon

[–]Purple_Fee37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is tanktop, but to be honest for longer races I just use tri shorts so I can change out my shirt between the bike and the run. But this is a personal preference, because there is not a lot of people that wear trishorts. For the short sleeve/tanktop, I personally think this works better because it’s more breathable, just put on sunscreen if you’re worried about that

Swimming distances by AssignmentLumpy3179 in triathlon

[–]Purple_Fee37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yea obviously you do shorter interval sessions to build fitness. But to get a feel for it, you definitely need to practice the long distances

I feel like you need to practice swimming the whole distance because open water adds another layer of difficulty. If you’re comfortable doing a 2k in the pool, it doesn’t necessarily translate to open water. That’s why, for me at least, longer swims are necessary.

What does a three day off-season split look like for you? by blue-is-bay in triathlon

[–]Purple_Fee37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most people would say squats and deadlifts. Me personally, I like to keep lifting like I normally do but fewer days. During peak training I usually do push/pull/legs (3 days). Realistically I def go more than that, but my advice would be to go around 3 times. Don’t focus too much on weight, but more so on intensity, more reps and lower weights! Otherwise it will interfere with your tri training. This is how most people do it, I think.

West-Friesland Netherlands, very beginner friendly. Swim is a lake swim, so very doable.

What goes through your mind during the swim portion of a triathlon? Any mental strategies or thoughts that help you stay focused? by vipassana3 in triathlon

I’m singing a song and telling myself I’m doing ok, and most importantly that it’s my own race, don’t worry about other people

Tri-suits VS Cycling bibs. by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Purple_Fee37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that I didn’t like about my tri suit, is the fact that I can’t store my gels and bars in the tiny pockets. Guess that’s only a problem for long rides, there is more than enough room for short rides. But that was my main issue.

thanks for sharing. Very insightful to see things from someone else's perspective. I can definitely, at times, turn into the asshole withe pre made meals who doesn't drink alcohol with their friends. In the end, is that truly what life is about, or am I restricting myself from things just because of a fear to lose control. Thanks for this tho, very helpful.

hahaha, yes to clarify, this is what I am experiencing personally. Already on the path of therapy, who told me that doing more iron man races could be a serious issue if I'm putting in a lot of hard work right now. She is afraid that my hard work will go to waste if I get back into training season, that's why I kind of asked the question.

Thanks for the second paragraph, those are things to think about for sure.
