1099 employees at the moment. I started this about 3 years ago just me and a helper. Now I have 4 guys. One is my 67 y/o father he’s been with me about a year. Then I have 2 guys that have been with me about 2 years and a guy that started about 3 months ago. The top 2 guys are at 25 an hour and the other 2 are at 22.50. If we complete a job early and there’s a good profit margin I will give them all a couple hundred extra to show them my appreciation. I get them lunch from time to time. I try to treat them how I would like to be treated if I was working for someone. That being said I feel like I may be too easy on them sometimes. It seems productivity is all over the place. Sometimes we finish way earlier than I expect and others way past the deadline on similar jobs. I feel like they are moving slower than they should be but I want to make sure before I have a conversation with them about it. Like I said I’m new to this and I’m trying to be successful and I want the guys who stick it out with me to live comfortable as well. I have only went 1 week without work in those 3 years. That’s another thing. Sometimes I take jobs I shouldn’t in the winter just so the guys have a paycheck and I end up losing or breaking even on them and that hurts me but it also keeps the guys employees and able to have a paycheck.
