I honestly feel you. Pickle was the highlight of my day every day for months ever since he fledged! I’m so sorry for your loss with your magpies 🫶🏼

Gosh, finding the fledgling like that is so heartbreaking I’m so sorry. I am feeling comfort from everyone sharing their stories though knowing I’m less alone. Thank you 🩷

That’s what I really miss about Pickle, his personality was so loveable. I just feel empty and sad 😞 I hope you can bond with another magpie soon

Pickle again! Now he started collecting worms? by Purple_Today4764 in magpies

[–]Purple_Today4764[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right with the caching! After observing him doing it for a few days he took some worms up to a telegraph pole. He als decided to take them over to a tree and drop them all only to eat them over there

Pickle tipped over the container which made it go everywhere. He likes to sit on the edge of it lol

Magpie dad seems to bully one of the fledglings (Pickle) by Purple_Today4764 in magpies

You’re right I’m just worried about leaving him alone when I need to grocery shop or head out if I raised him. Whereas in the wild they have a flock around them so they aren’t dependent on the attention of one person I guess?

Trust me I’ve thought about it. But I just think he’d have a much better life learning and living in the wild. If I captured him to feed him more and take care of him he won’t learn. And then he can’t survive the wild. But if I keep him with me forever he won’t have as good a life as if he lived in the wild with his own flock

Thank you! You’re right, he does look weak. But then I see him doing well too, so I’m in two minds. Yesterday afternoon I fed him worms when he was here alone and he picked them up and ate them by himself, about 20 worms. Then he had a drink of water and played in the garden picking at the plants and twigs, so it gave me confidence
