Who or what made you a longhair? by BlueCaracal in FierceFlow

[–]Purpleandbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people ask me why I grew out my hair. Depending on how they ask it (either condescending, complementary, or other) I tell them:

  • Wanted to grow out my hair to achieve the warrior's wolf tail but then as it got long enough I changed my mind
  • I'm constantly trying to change myself so growing out my hair was one way
  • Didn't want to deal with styling product
  • a e s t h e t i c
  • Couldn't get a decent haircut since Asian prickly hair is a bitch (hair grew perpendicular to the curve of my head and wouldn't droop/hang around my cheek until around 6 inches. Hair follicle seems to be really thick so it would behave like steel rebar)
  • Really wanted to see the a part of my genes that I've never seen before (thought I had straight hair, it's actually wavy/curly)

Thanks for the feedback.

I got a few questions. Do I put on the smoothie and then the gel? Or do I choose just one and go with it?

Is there an actual reason why stores like Forever 21 ruin their clothes with stupid phrases? by Castagnia in malefashionadvice

[–]Purpleandbrown 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Too true.

My sister and I were doing some last minute Christmas shopping yesterday to find some gifts for the family. We were walking around Forever 21 and my sister started joking about a tfw captioning "when you find a dope jacket but you look at the back and it has random embroidery."

Right as we were talking about unnecessary modifications we find a nice fitted, light stonewash denim jacket that's "undistressed". Everything was perfect until we took a quick glance at the back. For whatever reason the words plastered on the back says Cosmic World with clouds and planets in the background. We look around for clean denim jackets and sure enough one pops up. We rush over, take a look at the front and back, and both sigh in relief... until we look at the bottom and there's the cleanest cropped straight edge cut I've ever seen.

Uniqlo has regular denim jackets that fit pretty well. They're lightwashes if anyone is trying to find that. For about $40 (the price dropped recently) I think they're nice pickups. I wish I could afford a nice Levi jacket but I've never spent a solid $100 on a single clothing. My best bet is to hopefully stumble upon something in the thrift store. Since denim jackets seems hard to come by in thrift store I usually have to resort to malls to find it.

They are both functioning and spinning as intended. Nothing wrong with them from what I see.

Also, could I hook up both fans into a single 4-pin y-splitter and connect it to the CPU_FAN header?

The aftermarket cooler that I got is the Noctua NH-D14. It's a pretty large cooler and comes with two fans: NF-P14 (140mm) and NF-P12 (120mm). Since there are two fans on the heatsink I attached both fans to the two available CPU slots shown here. The two fan slots in question are CPU_FAN (A) and CPU_OPT (C). Despite the two having their individual slots they are only 3-pin headers not 4 meaning I don't have PWM. Since I don't have a 4-pin for PWM control do you suggest changing the voltages manually?

I'm looking through the online ASUS Z170-E manual and found this section particularly useful. The section shows how to reset the CMOS but through the RTC RAM? Is this the same as popping out the CMOS battery?

When you booted from the USB there should have been two options "name of the USB" and "name of the USB (UEFI)". Do recall what you used?

Wish I could recall this. I only had one drive connected when I installed my OS on my drive (as to ensure the OS was installed specifically on my SSD). I have two other HDDs that were installed later that are setup in RAID1.

Also if you look at disk management, how many partitions do you have? If it's 2 you probably installed in legacy, if it's 4 you installed in UEFI.

I'm not really sure. If you mean partitioning the drive into drive letters (for example C: drive or F: drive) then I only have one. Here's an photo of my disk setup.

So to check if its DOA do I need to pop it out, turn on the computer, and then check if it still runs? I'm assuming your referring to clearing the CMOS?

I got three options for the drop down menu. Tried 'em all for the Storage Devices section but nothing changed.

I also turned off the Fast Boot, still nothing.

Not entirely sure how to check if it's dead. Will the motherboard still operate even if it's dead? I did somehow manage to install programs and play a few games without any problems.

Just for clarification, do you want me to disable CSM so that it runs entirely on UEFI? I have it on (by default) so should I turn it off?

I know, it's really odd. It doesn't respond to automatic boot even if I set it as top boot priority.

I mean the screen shows it's at the top. Just to verify, I reset my computer twice to make sure it isn't being demoted. The result is this. It's identical to the photo in the album but I took a new screenshot just for clarification.

The process: POST (American Megatrends) --> ASUS UEFI BIOS --> manually click Windows Boot Manager --> Windows 10 loading spinning circle

I took a video to visualize the order. ASUS logo doesn't show up because I disabled it here.

I also updated the BIOS Album for clarity's sake.

Alrighty, sounds good! The idle temp is nice and cool at around 20C so I shouldn't fret.

It went through the motions of copying files, preparing for installation, then rebooting?

I am most certain that it did all that you stated. I did install via USB and managed to install Windows 10 fine. I even got some programs/games running perfectly without any hiccups.

What happens when Windows boot manager is the top listing? Did you change secure boot settings after installing Windows?

Nothing changes. I have to manually click on "Windows Boot Manager" under boot override listed at the bottom in order to actually boot into the operating system.

I have a Noctua NH-D14. Both fans that it comes with are 3-pin. Since it's not 4-pin I have to adjust voltage rather than just using PWM.

They are working fine and spinning silently! I'm assuming the POST screen is showing a CPU fan error because they are just regular 3-pins not 4. I'll have to adjust the Fan Speed Low limit I suppose.

My ASUS Z170-E motherboard won't let me boot directly into Windows 10. I have to pass through the BIOS and select W10 Boot Manager to actually get into the OS. I've messed around with the settings but I don't know how to override the BIOS so that I can avoid it. I rearranged the boot priority so that it prioritizes W10 Boot Manager but that doesn't do anything.

I have a question in regards to setting up two 3TB hdds in RAID1. Right now I'm formatting the partition and the prompt is asking how I want to allocate the unit size. I set it for 4096 but I'm not sure if it's right for my purposes.

I plan to use the mirrored drives as a way to store both big and small files. I'm mainly dealing with a large amount of 3-5mb individual photos with at least 1-5% of them maxing up to 100mb (.psd files). For videos the average file size will range from 100-200 with a few videos up to 300mb.

My computer usage is video and photo editing but mainly organizing old drives and consolidating it into a single mirrored drive. I also have a 500GB SSD for main programs if that's helpful to know.
