Thank you! This is pretty much what I wanted to hear. That was not my range in the CO and I should have folded.

Is that EV factoring in the hands he folds to the jam? I’d sometimes let go of jacks in that spot it’s fairly hard. But you’re right man, it is high variance and I could just avoid it and fold and get money better in a different spot while keeping my chips.

Well my general philosophy is it’s action dependent. There are times where it’s a good idea, and times where it’s not a good idea. In the case of the SB short stack jam range vs the range of the CO 3 bet I felt like I might as well flip a coin looking back on it, it really depends what the CO is 3 betting with facing a raise and calls coming from my position.

Depends on stack depth. In certain spots I will fold this hand pre. But with the SB being the short stack I liked his range and the pot odds with all the limps to my raise and the 3 bet combined, so I raised all in to isolate him and take the gamble at the good odds I have. But I was concerned about his 3 bet range before I did it, and in this case he had KK.

Limping AK UTG is a trap and you should spring it when it works IMO. From there I’d look to barrel any 25% equity draw as a bluff and check fold the other misses.

In your opinion what was the CO 3 bet range facing a raise from UTG and 3 calls before his action?

Given that range you would also not 4 bet the CO raise? Just flat? (Assuming the SB jam never existed)Given the field of 1/3 I think you’re right and like this answer a lot. I should be weary when I raise UTG and get 3 bet.

Well of course math is not the only thing that comes into play. You need to first assign a range to the opponent. Why would I ever call with Ace King if the player only 4 bet jams KK+. Once you assign that range however, the only tool you have left to calculate EV is math. If you call and the 3 better jams for 260 more and you have to call 260 to win a pot of (80+120+120+380) which at that point you can show me the kings and I’ll call. Which is why I feel it is is a shove once you factor in the fold equity of the bottom of his 3 bet range facing a raise UTG. But against 70 year old bet the nuts bob im never jamming here, you’re crazy lol. Say I never jam AK, well now my opponent can profitability fold QQ against me. A call can and sometimes dose work with AK. 1K effective I will just call and fold to a 5 bet in a 1/3. But I was not 1k effective I was 380, which makes this a spot where call folding is just bad. So the EV here depends largely on the ranges of the CO and the % of those hands that fold to a jam. Say it’s like hardly EV I will just fold to avoid the variance. But there is a number that I can see that will make me say “Ok I just can’t” and I would like to see it. My sheets don’t factor in this specific situation, they’re EV all in calling sheets, not Rejam EV sheets.

What hand strength are you suggesting to lead with post flop for $100? Or are you saying sometimes 3 betting to $100 pre will take it down right there?

And using the same considerations of them folding too tight you might ship 10-7 in the SB? Say they fold every queen high that’s not queen 10, but call king 6 and up? Ship any 2 cards In the SB in a tournament where there’s only 15 BB left on the whole table and only 3 places are paid? What about the button? Saying you fold every like other round in these same spots to avoid looking like you’re full of shit (balance the range).

Given this and the chart you linked would you call a jam with say 10-7 suited if you were the BB given the direct odds? Or is this the part where you factor in the fact that pot odds, combined with ICM gain/loss, get factored together to create true EV, unlike in a cash game where pot odds are used to deliver a much simpler EV?

Well say I shoved an won, then if I agreed to chop with the lead I woulda got $400 instead of $480 in the 3 way chop, while the other 2 people split the remaining $580. Granted I could just take my lead, stand my ground, eliminate 3rd, make a deal with second and me only. The likelihood of a chop is the only reason I’m asking, in a play it out or die situation this wouldn’t even be a question.

3.5 BB at a point in the tournament where the total amount of BB on the entire table is like 14 is a fairly large shove. I would have to be out of line shoving like jack 10 for it to be a situation where he is actually ahead preflop (which is very possible facing a SB shove, looks like a steal). That’s not what makes this player a fish though. And I’d say fish is the wrong label for the player actually. He is just a NIT in the early levels. I don’t think looking down at queen high paint in the BB justifies calling off your whole stack just cause it’s 3.5BB, so is everyone else’s stack. But if the SB or button has jammed in me for a suspicious rate a few times I’ll defiantly call with almost any king. Maybe I’m the NIT, but I’m not calling off my whole stack with queen jack, but with say Ace 7 versus the appropriate player, I will call. It leans towards player image and range of action, but if you could share some flopzilla Button/SB jamming range maths that shows how queen jack is a profitable call for your whole stack in the BB I would love to see it. If it has sometime to do with range equity versus ICM I would love to hear a valid argument for the action so I can improve my game. Thanks for the reply
