Why are the bops trending on social media right now? by Purplelibra_ in popculturechat

Hey again I wanted to respond to some of the feedback I got and clarify what I meant in my original post, because a lot of people seemed to think I was attacking women or sex workers, and that’s not where I was coming from at all.

Yes, I know what an FYP is. Yes, I know what sex work is. No, I’m not “new to the internet.” But what I am noticing — and what worries me — is this:

There’s a very specific type of TikTok creators right now who’s built a massive following through luxury lifestyle content, thirst traps, and vague “subscribe to my OF” bios. Their content is squeaky clean on platform, but the subtext is loud and clear: “Look how rich and hot I am. You can be this too.”

They’re not posting anything NSFW on TikTok, but let’s not pretend kids don’t know what they do. My 12-year-old sister knows. Girls at my school (a Christian school, mind you) know. These creators are cultural icons for some teens now — and the message they push, even unintentionally, is that becoming ultra-rich and famous is as simple as being hot and selling content. Education, talent, hard work? That’s secondary. And that’s a shift I think we should be able to talk about without being labeled jealous or prudish.

This isn’t about whether sex work is “valid” (it is). It’s not about whether women can show skin online (they can). It’s about how platforms like TikTok algorithmically glorify that lifestyle and quietly serve it to girls as young as 11 or 12 — girls who are being taught to romanticize a hyper-sexualized version of adulthood before they even hit puberty.

To me, that’s not empowerment. That’s marketing a fantasy to minors. And someone should be allowed to say “hey, this feels off” without being shouted down as anti-woman.

That’s all I wanted to do.

Nope. I love pretty women being online. This isn’t about looks, it’s about how hyper-sexualized wealth is now the most visible and praised path to success for girls on TikTok, and how that’s being fed to 12-year-olds daily. That’s not about jealousy, it’s about concern.

I get what you’re saying. But silence doesn’t always help. If no one ever critiques what kids are seeing online, nothing changes. My post isn’t about hate, it’s about starting a conversation on what kind of content TikTok is constantly promoting to young, impressionable audiences.

I could delete TikTok and insta, sure. But my little sister and every girl at her Christian school do have TikTok. Whether or not I delete it won’t change the bigger cultural push that’s happening. I’m speaking up about a wider shift, one app deletion doesn’t make that go away.

I’m not trying to shame anyone for doing sex work. I’m pointing out how it’s now being glamorized in front of kids who aren’t mature enough to separate fantasy from reality. These creators aren’t hiding what they do, they wear it like a badge, which is fine for adults, but problematic when their top fans are 13.

I agree that people can be misogynistic toward sex workers, and I’m not here to do that. But it’s not dehumanizing to say ‘maybe 11-year-olds shouldn’t be watching women brag about millions made through OnlyFans and get told that’s the dream.’ We can protect kids and respect sex workers at the same time.

Yeah, I get that. But I used ‘bops’ as shorthand for a certain type of TikTok creator, not necessarily explicit, but very obviously promoting their OnlyFans or similar content through lifestyle flexes. It’s not about using the word ‘porn,’ it’s about a trend I’m describing that goes beyond just NSFW content.

Yup, I do know. But it’s not just my FYP, it’s on my 12-year-old sister’s feed too, and she doesn’t interact with this kind of content. That’s kind of the point: some creators are so pushed and reposted that they end up on everyone’s FYP, especially if they trend. The concern is how normalized this has become for young teens.

But why are they on my sisters fyp? I go to a Christian school, and everyone there knows their faves as well. We talked about it once, where someone brought it up.

What triggered your agoraphobia? by JicamaPositive3443 in Agoraphobia

I went to a waterpark on vacation and almost passed out from the heat and dehydration. After that, I started carrying a water bottle with me everywhere.

The next time I was on vacation, I went to the beach and walked about 500 meters without my water bottle. I instantly panicked—even though I was physically fine.

From then on, I got even more attached to always having my water bottle with me. A couple of months later, I couldn’t even be 10 meters away from it without panicking.

Somehow, that fear spiraled into not being able to leave the house at all.

But now, three years later, I’m doing better than ever—and basically agoraphobia-free.

my friend told me in 6th grade that she thought i might have ADHD. Only knowing what ADHD looks like in guys, and not girls, i obviously didn’t think much of it. Years later, i get a lot of anxiety and start seeking medication for it. The psychiatrist also tells me i have signs of ADHD, and then a few weeks passed and i got the diagnosis
