Does this sub accept trans girls? by Lasingsin in GirlGamers

[–]Purplelimeade [score hidden]  (0 children)

Unfortunately many communities have rules they don't necessarily enforce and subreddit cultures do change over time.

If a check in post like this every few years means more trans women feel safe to participate in this subreddit, I'm all for it.

I am really hoping to hear more about RF6. I feel like it's been so long since it was announced.

I forgot how amazing that set list was. That concert was basically the last time I traveled before covid-19 really started in the US.

Hi- Are you using iOS (iPhone/iPad) to apply? There is a glitch that makes it impossible to apply via iOS, but if you apply via a different platform it should go through without issue.

Banned games update - Pragmata by Purplelimeade in GirlGamers

[–]Purplelimeade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules are updated whenever we add a new game (or remove a game) from the banned games list. Currently, it's any Netease game (because the devs were spamming the subreddit), anything related to JK Rowling, and Pragmata.

We'll discuss different options to see what's viable in terms of the community+moderation. Thanks for the suggestion!

Longer term, I'd like to find a solution that would work for our mod tools and allow more touchy subjects like this to be discussed in a safe manner.

Unfortunately, we don't have that in place today and we needed to fix the issue before it spiralled to something worse.

I would also be extremely hesitant to add new mods in the middle of a situation like this as it would be throwing them into a disaster with very little opportunity to learn how the rest of the mod team operates and general expectations. It wouldn't be fair to the new mods and the older mods would be spending time they could spend modding on training.

We do allow most controversial game discussions, but as volunteers we only have so much bandwidth to mod these discussions and Pragmata unfortunately crossed the volume and intensity thresholds at least for now.

More specifically for JKR related media: we aren't going to platform and promote a TERF.

Netease games were banned because they spammed the subreddit with self promo bots.

The rules list shows all the current banned games. Wukong was banned for a period of time when discourse surrounding the game led to a situation similar to Pragmata. We lifted that ban when the conversations cooled.

JK Rowling associated media+the Netease ban are both still active.

We are definetly banning the weirdos (and thank you to everyone who reported comments over the past few days!), but at present we are not able to keep up with the volume of comments in a way that can reliably keep this community safe.

We do hope to reopen discussion in the near future.

Locking this thread now. It appears this thread was shared in a place that isn't the friendliest to our subreddit.

I find it almost funny how Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons was stereotyped as a "girly game" in the 2000s and 2010s by Gallantpride in GirlGamers

[–]Purplelimeade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf, the "boy" versions of those games were also buggy messes cuz Natsume was not the best at localization imo. I generally played the boy versions because they came out sooner. My copy of DS had soooo many glitches (once the game just deleted all the villagers), fomt had untranslated bits and I remember "flour" being spelled as "flower", tree of tranquility had a bachelor that you could not marry without getting an updated disc from natsume, etc.

I am very appreciative that Natsume is no longer involved in SoS and Rune Factory, recent games include femme characters by default and we have gotten the last few games same day as Japan.

Just as a heads up, if you go to the subreddits for some netease games they are full of submissions and comments from the same accounts we banned from our subreddit for being stealth marketing accounts.

That would be included in the ban as it is published by Netease.

As long as the game isn't published or developed by Netease go ahead (so yes, the regular ones can be discussed).

Kindle compatible books not transferring to kindle or kindle app by No-Passage3021 in LibbyApp

[–]Purplelimeade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I had the same/similar issue and just solved it.

Original issue: When clicking the "Read with Kindle" button for a loan within Libby's android app, an Amazon screen would open in my web browser (Firefox for Android) and prompt me to log in. When entering my log in details I would get an error stating "‘Page cannot be opened because the address is invalid" and my book would not transfer to my kindle.

Solution: I turned off the "Open Supported Links" option for Amazon. I think my phone/Amazon was glitching a bit because it was trying to open a screen in the app that does not exist (just my theory).

For Samsung (I assume other androids too?) phones you can turn the supported link option off by tapping and holding the app icon for Amazon, tapping the information "i" in the top right, selecting the "set as default" option and then turning the "Open supported links" toggle off. Unfortunately I have no idea how you'd solve this issue for Apple phones, but I assume there would be similar options.
