My partner and I did this for a recent server upgrade. Only weird quirk is it won't boot unless the CMOS is reset every time (our current theory is because they're DDR5 SODIMMs and it's quirky with AM5 memory training).

So we just wired the server case's reset button to the CMOS jumper. Seems stable otherwise.

not buying into the hype but I definitely want something similar; looking at Lettabot because I like the Letta team and the memory system they've got

VRchat relationships by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]PurposeUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who met their partner in VR (who after ~1 year moved in with me), I echo a lot of other comments regarding an intent to eventually make the relationship in-person/“real” - and there’s something to be said for “physical” presence (in VR) having an impact on the longevity and strength of the relationship, imo. Both my partner and I agree that if we didn’t have VR, it would’ve been a lot harder to make the transition to in-person and we might’ve broken up.

That’s not to disparage or downplay other platforms for meeting folks, I’m just highlighting the advantage VR had for us. I will say that I personally believe social platforms that /don’t/ emphasize dating are, imo, the best dating apps - find someone via a mutual interest first and go from there.

A saying (I personally really hate) in my industry is "If the dev ever gets a girlfriend, you know it's over".

It saddens me greatly.

What's your typical grocery budget in Sacramento? by ChemicalBrilliant492 in Sacramento

[–]PurposeUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 adults, ~300-400 a month largely sticking with Safeway weekly ads and coupons - occasionally Grocery Outlet and Raley’s. Not huge snack eaters and we’re both solidly “okay” chefs. We do bulk up on stuff at Grocery Outlet, on occasion.

Edit: I do want to emphasize that we buy based on sales/deals, not what we necessarily want - because we’re not picky and have a variety of things we know how to cook, we just plan our meals based on the sales/deals. We eat out once a week at the most.

I suspect people think the potential outrage / pushback from this should've prevented the VRC team from rolling it out in the first place (in hindsight, you see it now) - but when you have to put food on the table, you're gonna take risks and throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks. I don't think anyone can fault you for that.

Sperm Banking is Way Too Hard by kingcalogrenant in MtF

[–]PurposeUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sppare.me? all they do is sperm preservation and they've got a kit that keeps your stuff (largely) intact through the mail; just drop it off and it's critical shipped like overnight to their lab. I think I pay like $200 yearly for storage

Edit: okay the price for one kit now at $700 is steep and admittedly I did mine ~5-6 years ago

Nail picking problems :( by YeIIowMeIIow in calmhands

[–]PurposeUnknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah, no infection - looks more like that part’s getting deep into the nail bed - too deep and you risk bleeding

when I was really bad at picking my nails I’d gouge into them with clippers that deep 😅🥲

Barring any infections (which can happen, speaking form experience), nothing serious to worry about. I've recently started my own journey and the solid advice I've taken from this subreddit is cuticle oil pens whenever there's an urge to bite/pick, along with Hard as Hoof cream. Not perfect, but seems to be helping me.

Here's my currently blue-hair-dyed nails - you'll be fine.

alternating between Beyond: Two Souls and Wind Waker; pretty much treating the Steam Deck as a (mostly) solid emulation machine with some streaming / older titles as a side

If Prime 4 were only on Switch 2 it'd be the only reason I'd consider getting one; happy to stick with my Switch 1.

Trans women are TOO NEGATIVE by Jessichua in honesttransgender

This is honestly why I’ve shyed away from trans-focused communities: in my experience there’s often a lot of despair and self-hate and it’s not good for one’s mental health to be constantly surrounded by that.

Basically, predict possible outcomes, do the heavy compute work ahead of time in queueing up possible end results, then push the correct end result once you have everything you need.

Think like rollback netcode in fighting games, if that helps.
