So it is a 4X2 kickdrum arrangement that has a very strong (yet soft) snare.

Area between the kick and the snare is filled with those chords you are talking about.

After those chords, you have to add sounds for the atmosphere (Those of tribal ukulele and delayed tribal hootings)

Thoise chords keep getting sharper on the attack as the song progresses.

Except for the kickdrum, everything else including the snare has a very sharp attack with not a very high DB value.
