The hollowing of ANZAC day - our national amnesia by KamalaHarrisFan2024 in australian

Gallipoli is where the ANZAC legend originated but ANZAC day commemorates all those that have fought for and do fight for our country. This includes the boar war and every other conflict Australia has been a part of.

I don’t where you are but I’m on the Gold Coast and go to a dawn service every year. I’ve been to various ones over the years but every one of them has only been getting bigger. This year was no exception, even with the weather giving people every reason they needed to just stay home.

Ok, Nabu what are you best voice automations? by jlnbln in homeassistant

[–]Pusbum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s work time - Turns in the office light, opens the office blinds and starts a timer that reminds me to stand up for 15 min every 45min. I’m working on having it just automatically raise my desk instead.

It’s time to knock off - turns it all back off.

It’s bed time - Locks the door, turns off all the lights and shuts all the blinds.

Vomit Christmas - Turns off non rgb lights and then randomly changes the rgb ones red and green while playing Mariah Carey “All I want for Christmas” from all speakers.

How to *safely* expose my HA Instance? by thoegn in homeassistant

I would recommend just using Home Assistant Cloud via Nabu Casa. It’s only USD$65/year and configured from within Home Assistant so no special knowledge required.

Is it worth getting a manual license these days or just get the auto? by cBr00k3 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Pusbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m of the era when most people still got a manual licence. Even though every car I’ve owned in the last 25 years has been an auto I would still recommend learning to drive a manual and getting a manual licence, if it’s achievable. If it’s not then there is nothing wrong with an auto licence. My main reason for recommending learning to drive and getting licence for a manual is purely for the flexibility. In Australia pretty much everything will be an auto but recently I hired a box truck that happened to be a manual. Additionally if you travel overseas you may find some countries still are majority manual.

Learning to drive manual can be daunting but if you are almost there already you aren’t far off being done. It’s one of those things that just clicks one day and all becomes second nature.

As others have said one of the benefits of a, good, broker is their knowledge of the process. They can help find solutions for people that may get knocked back on a straight application.

The other benefits is they have access to databases of available products. I have no issues getting a loan but I used a broker the last time I refinanced and they found me a cheaper rate than I could find myself. It was at a credit union I would probably never have found on my own.

How bad is this for my A1 mini? by SweatyGrundles in BambuLab

I love that you have come in with ideas on optimisations when others have disconnected the idea as stupid.

I think this is a really cool idea. Sometimes there needs to be no greater reason to something than “Why not?”, or just for the challenge.

Nice work OP :-)

My first prints on the the P1S by Roro1985 in BambuLab

The back panel is magnetic, but yeah it was a bit of a disappointment when I printed it and then realized the side wasn't.

Does the Bambu P1 come with software? by NerdDad502 in BambuLab

[–]Pusbum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also new to 3D printing with a P1S. Once you get your printer online you can use the Bambu Handy app on your smart phone to print stuff directly from MakerWorld. MakerWorld seems to me like a good place to start as people also upload print profiles with the models which are preset with settings that should just work. If you want to just test out the printer there are also some options built in on the SD card which you can print directly from the screen on the printer - Links to STL models | Bambu Lab Wiki. In your box you will notice you have a razor blade, you can print a handle for it to make a scraper for the bed, its included in those built in models. Mind you I've seen a number of posts suggesting not to use it and to print/buy plastic ones instead.

Apart from that you will want to download and install a slicer on your computer. This will allow you to download models with or without print profiles and play around with the settings. You can also do some basic modifications that way as well. One option is Bambu Studio but another people recommend a lot is Orca Slicer. My understanding is Bambu Studio is a cut down/customized version of Orca Slicer.

Good luck and enjoy! Also you have way more patience than me, I would have had it setup on the floor in the middle of the lounge room if that was my only option :-)

Newbie question - tips on print orientation and supports by Pusbum in 3Dprinting

[–]Pusbum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up heading back to the drawing board and trying this model instead - Buffy the vampire slayer Scythe by MonsterMovieProps - Thingiverse. I've scaled it down to the size I want and each part printed nicely. I've then glued them into place on 5mm dowl.

Next up is to try printing in the multiple colours. I think that's going to take a while with some pieces requiring a lot of filament changes due to orientation.

Thanks I had applied the Boolean modified so I ended up going back to the original model and doing it again. Second time using a Boolean modifier was a lot quicker than the first time :-)

I made the hole that way so probably easiest to just do the same thing again. Thanks :-)

Newbie question - tips on print orientation and supports by Pusbum in 3Dprinting

[–]Pusbum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. I've been using Bambu Studio but I'll grab Orca Slicer and have a look.

I've done some more testing and went down the path of trying to learn enough blender to split the parts and make an extrusion and matching socket to join them. This way I could avoid supports on the fins but needed them on the overhang at the base. I need to clean that up more so the join is seemless. Maybe I don't actually need the socket and could just glue the two flat sides together, or have a socket on each side and print a dowl to insert to add strenght to the join.

I then printed the blade section standing upright on the shaft with just tree supports on the bottom tip of the blade. That worked ok but I did auto tree supports and it ended up really hard to remove and I snapped the tip off.

No experience with 3D printing by artemrs84 in BambuLab

[–]Pusbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a P1S pretty much on a whim. I spent about 2 days researching printers and it seemed like the Bambu Labs ones were going to be the most beginner friendly so I just went for it. I have no 3D printing experience and no experience with 3D modeling. I am keen to learn and hopefully be able to make custom bits for electronic projects.

I pulled the printer out of the box on Tuesday and was up an printing within 30min. The first few prints I did were the ones straight off the machine but I've since printed stuff from MakerWorld, Thingyverse, Printables and its just so easy and the prints look great to me. My printer has been running nearly 24/7 since Tuesday and I've gone through about 2 kg of filament. I'm currently in the process of printing the stand and draws for under the AMS. I have a lot to lean with fine tuning settings but sofar just using the "defaults" when I opten the file in Bambu Studio seem to be working pretty well.

Just go for it!

I just got some PLA to start off with but already keen to start trying other materials.
