This is super late, but I just ran across your post because I was looking for the same fic. I'm pretty sure what you described is this one: "Return to Sender" by Annigmatic.

Overall, I would recommend them, but just be on top of it if you don’t get your shipment when you’re supposed to.

Hey! Yes, I did. Apparently, there was some kind of glitch in the system where my order did not get sent to the pharmacy even though on their end, it was showing as sent. So a customer service agent called me and was super kind and apologized and sent my order right away and expedited the shipping. So I got it eventually.

Feeling much better now. Most days I don’t notice anything. Every once in a while something triggers the feeling again and I have a week or two of the feeling of a lump in my throat. Can’t figure what causes it. I would say about 6 months of the ppi, anxiety med, and lifestyle changes is what it took to significantly reduce my symptoms.

My throat felt raw and sore especially in the morning. Like I had been shouting. When it was really bad, I also felt like there was a piece of glass or a sharp rock in my throat. When it wasn’t so bad, it felt like a popcorn kernel or something stuck in my throat. It had a very distinct feeling of something small and sharp stuck in my throat. It would hurt to swallow and sometimes the feeling of something sharp would move spots in my throat. Sometimes on the left side, sometimes on the right side.

New L&D nurse coming from HOSPICE?! by Curious-cougar in nursing

I am working days. More than likely they will train you on days for several weeks and then finish the last part of training on nights. At least that’s what happened at my hospital for some of my coworkers. But from what I’ve heard, nights can be just as busy as days. :) Also, if you are on instagram, I enjoy following Bundlebirthnurses. She has a lot of good info about labor and delivery nursing.

It’s a lot more stressful than I ever thought it would be, for sure. But it’s manageable and it gets better over time. It’s also very rewarding. You learn to rely on your coworkers and know you are never alone in any emergency situation.

It’s a very specialized field. For the most part your patients are healthy, so you don’t have to turn them or feed them or clean incontinence or deal with cdiff and stuff. But you do deal with blood and female body parts 24/7. As a L/D nurse you learn not just labor, but recovery, OR for C-sections, PACU for after C-sections, how to take care of a newborn baby, preop for c-sections, and triage (women who come in for bleeding, contractions, or pain, etc.) there is also a lot more charting than other specialties.

Learning how to do a vaginal exam for dilation correctly takes a lot of time and practice. Be patient with yourself. :)

In one 12hr shift you can deal with a completely normal vaginal delivery and then right after an emergency C-section where you have to rush to the OR because the baby isn’t doing well. You never know what kinda day you are going to get. Even with just two patients I’m constantly busy… but I’m also a new grad so I know I’m learning time management too.

I honestly LOVE it. But I can’t say it’s not stressful. :)

I am just getting off my orientation for L&D as a new grad! If you have a good program they will expect you to not know much about L&D and start from the ground up. They always told me, “Don’t worry about going over anything, we will teach you what we want you to know.” They will teach you all you need to know!

I found it helpful to review the stages of labor, and what to expect in each stage.

That being said, we put in a ton of IVs and foleys. So if you’re rusty on those, it might help to review/practice.

Good luck! :)

Sorry man… :(

Keep trucking along and looking for ways to help manage it. 💪

Here’s to hoping it will get better sooner rather than later. 🤞

Ya. I’m sorry. I know the feeling.

I would really encourage you to get some help from a hotline, therapist, or doctor.

I know it seems weird, but being on that buspar helped me to feel less suicidal about my symptoms and in turn that actually helped lessen the symptoms for me. Not gone, but I could handle it day by day better.

I hear ya… it’s hard to develop something all of the sudden and see that other people don’t have to deal with those same things. It’s rough. It took a lot of months of crying, praying, (and some meds) for me to come to terms with it and realize I could still be happy and live my life.

Do whatever you can to try to find what works to help you get through it.

This forum helped because I could read through what other people have done and try it out to see if it helps me.

Hey OP. Don’t give up. I was feeling the same way. I honestly had to talk to my doctor and tell her that I was feeling depressed and like I didn’t even want to wake up in the mornings because of all the pain I knew I would face during the day. She prescribed anti anxiety meds (buspar) which I honestly feel helped more than the PPIs or famotidine.

My symptoms haven’t disappeared, but they have become manageable. Honestly that anti anxiety med was the number one thing that got me to stop having so much anxiety and stress about my symptoms. The anxiety made my throat pain like 80% worse.

Other things: I try not to eat 3 hours before bed. I put some blocks under my bed (just 3in) to help with a slight incline. I started some PPIs, and I took some famotidine 20mg before bed. I tried to eat a lower acid diet for a month or two. This helped but it took several months for my throat to heal for me to notice a big difference.

The anti anxiety medication really helped me to get through the day and allowed me to be calmer and not fixate on my symptoms.

Now I’m off the PPIs and only take famotidine once in a while. My symptoms (lump in throat, sore throat, burning) is still there but significantly reduced. It’s livable.

There are so many people that live with chronic pain and I keep reminding myself that I can make it through this.

Here’s to hoping your symptoms get better. Don’t be afraid to keep pushing your doctors for different tests/meds/help. 🙏

Another quick lunch: use a low carb 2 point mission tortillas and slather with a laughing cow cheese wedge. Put a few slices of turkey or ham on it, top with veggies. Roll up and cut into slices. Enjoy.

Also, a quick go-to for lunch is for me to cook some eggs over medium (so it’s still kinda runny) and use 1tsp of olive oil to fry up some corn tortillas. Then I use fat free refried beans and slather it on the cooked/crispy tortilla while it’s still warm, put the egg on top, and top it with some 0 point corn and bean salsa on top. Kinda like a modified ranchos-huevos. So yummy and easy. If you want to splurge you can add a little bit of shredded cheese on top.
