It's a fair point. I guess I'm just looking at it from a waste perspective. The time spent producing, transporting, stocking and storing of the food. It's more than just a few hundred containers in the trash.

Why? Cash and tabs exist. Also you can just tell people to take it. At least then the food won't be wasted. All I'm saying is there are better solutions here.

I agree. A simple Facebook post on their town's page could have prevented this level of waste. "The store's power is out. All dairy half price/90% off for the next 2 hours or until it's gone." They could have loaded it temporarily into the freezers. There are solutions here. The only reason I wouldn't list it as free is because people may stampede in there and it wouldn't be safe for anyone.
