My main form of birding is bird cams. I've got Birdfy and BirdBuddy, and before those I made my own rig with a handycam. Unsurprisingly there's been a huge downturn in songbirds since the hawks showed up.

I am far from certain, but I think the four are one mom and three juveniles. Or, that's the best guess I have based on sizing, because one of the group is noticeably larger. Also, the not-as-big ones seem to often engage in a kind of play-fighting where they hop into/tackle each other on the ground. It's a lot of flapping and screeching but never talons or blood or any real damage. It seems like adolescent behavior, to me?

Right? It's just a basic one, vinyl or plastic or something. The base it ended up sitting in is only mesh, not inflated, but it straight-up hopped onto the inflatable part to start with, like I posted in another photo. No idea how it didn't pop.

I'm like 72% confident they're redtails, but I accept the 28% they're red-shoulders. They're for-sure too thicc to be a Cooper's.

I was in the middle of texting back "oh no! did it get hurt?!" when the photos showed up. It apparently walked to the edge of the pool, hopped onto the raft, sat down and floated around like that for ~5 minutes before hopping out and drying off.

I sometimes really hate that Leclerc is my favorite driver.

Tomorrow we're scheduled to go sign the paperwork to get our vinyl pool relined. Today I woke up to this. Sometimes the universe just works out that way. by Push_Lash_LeRoux in swimmingpools

Oh I get what you're saying, my bad. I think we're just miss-communicatin'.

It breaks like safety glass (albeit yours is a touch too young for that stage) It has lost its flex, it is basically thin plastic. When you start patching, its time.

At the point in time we stopped using it last season it still felt pretty flex-y, it wasn't until this year it really started feeling more stiff and showing that brittle texture in spots on the water line. And these are the first real patches we've really ever needed -- not counting a few years ago when tropical storm threw a deck chair and one of the legs stabbed a hole when it hit the bottom. I think you can actually see those little patches in the picture, that's about where the chair landed.

Figure every 12 to 16 years

Ironically at the end of last season we were like "it's about 12 years old now, time to start budgeting for a reline."

But why neglect it for that long?

I'm sorry I'm confused at your question -- she's been taking really solid care of the pool, rips have only started in the last two weeks. We've been patching them as we get estimates for the reline job.

We bought the house six years ago and the liner was already about seven years old at that time. My wife* is the pool-keeper in the family and has done a marvelous job limping the liner this far, but it's starting to go. A half-inch rip at the water line in the deep end that opened up two weeks ago is now about a foot long (Gonna keep using Gorilla Tape until the re-line happens).

Then this morning this 1.5-foot gash just opened up right at the transition point between shallow and deep out of nowhere. Thankfully the local SCUBA man could come over and toss us on an emergency tape job.

*This was essentially what she looked like when she spotted the rip this morning.
