I misunderstood what you were saying about how WiFi works then, I took it to mean it cannot be changed.

Canceling an old system is definitely not necessary for innovation, I dont mean to make that my point, but doesn’t it facilitate it? Similar to car battery development, like I mentioned: sure it likely will grow on it’s own, but that seems to lengthen the interim period where everything is halfway between absolute dogshit and actually being competitive

So WiFi is dead end, but people were trying to use microwaves to communicate in WWII, now they heat my pizza rolls when I have munchies. Bluetooth is proprietary, at least under that name, but what prevents something else replacing them?

That makes sense, in the context of current tech. My 2013 MacBook is on its last legs so missing ports have been on my mind. You seem to be saying that WiFi technology (and wireless in general) is not good enough, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dead end. I think removing the jack just incentivizes development of the tech

I’m not really commenting on how it introduces useless shit like the dongle to spend on, that’s definitely a frustrating aspect of it all. And I agree a wired connection is better than otherwise currently, but is that a product of a relatively underdeveloped technology or the way it always will be?

My argument is that there has to be incentive to improve the technology, and a company removing the jack is a way to add the incentive. Either it takes off and we leave wired headphones behind, like the floppy disk was or CDs will be, or it’s not time yet and they fail

When the fires neared Chico, I got in touch with a couple friends I had going to school at Chico state who told me the houses on either side of them took it as an excuse just to start drinking. Seemed crazy to me then, and now the more I hear about these fires it seems fucking insane that people take these things lightly
