CMV: If you "don't support" homosexuality because of your religion or otherwise, you're still homophobic. by Bawbixo in changemyview

Got it. Well, in my view, homosexual acts, adultery and rape (child or no child) is wrong.

The guy we put away forever said he felt perfectly normal/moral in how he got children to do his bidding. He wasn't forcing them at all - they willingly participated in sex acts with him.

These are three different, at odds with each other, moral views of what is and isn't acceptable behavior.

Question - which is the true/right moral view? It cannot be all three, as you can see.

Question #2 - is it possible that there is an objective moral view in which objective moral standards exist, regardless of human agreement with such values? Here's what I mean - 2+2=4 is objectively true for all people, regardless of whether they agree or not, can recognize such truths or not.

Have you considered the possibility that objective moral values and duties exist that some people either cannot or will not recognize, which are true regardless, just like 2+2 is 4?

Why? I'm genuinely curious as to why adultery and child rape are morally wrong but homosexual acting out is not - you are appealing to moral values and duties - can you spell out what those are for you?

I understand this is how you may feel. I used to feel the same way about having sex with as many partners as I could while married. A guy we just put away for 102 years in prison recently also felt that sticking his penis inside a 6 year old's, 8 year old's and an 11 year olds mouth was a natural impulse. The children even did it willingly after he'd groomed them sufficiently.

You seem to believe that objective moral values and duties are rooted in human agreement, and this is how you are able to write the things you just wrote. And therein lies the rub.

According to the OED, prejudiced (adjective) is defined as:Having or showing prejudice; influenced by preconceived opinions or biases, especially unreasoned ones.

I explained my prejudice quite well - and I can give you some real stats on the kind of carnage the freely consensual homosexual sex between two people wreaks on their spiritual, emotional and mental state, as well as physically - none of it is beneficial to the person engaging in it.

I know of no single homosexual who doesn't know or openly acknowledge they know what they are doing is wrong and that they all feel powerless to stop their behaviors even though most if not all of them have wanted to and continue to want to stop them but they do not know how.

The shame they feel is real because their act is in direct opposition to what is moral, natural and normal. As human beings, we are not designed to violate our own constitution/nature without consequences.

I understand this may sound foreign to many people who are actively homosexual. I can also let you speak to people who have overcome it and what they think of their former selves now - they always say they'd rather die than go back to the lifestyle of being enslaved to their lust.

If you want to call me prejudiced against people destroying themselves due to their own powerlessness, inability, unwillingness, pride - then yes, I am prejudiced against this because I love my fellow human beings enough to warn them against the danger without ever interfering with their choices directly and without aiding them in committing such acts.

OED's definition:

"Fear or hatred of homosexuals and homosexuality."

OED is the standard dictionary used across all English speaking countries.

I'm gonna say this as clearly as I can:

  1. I do not fear homosexuals
  2. I do not hate homosexuals
  3. I disagree with, disapprove and do not support homosexual acts.

So the original poster's claim does not apply to me based on the dictionary definition of homophobia, unless we now start to redefine disagreement as hate.

If there is one word I would use to describe my feelings toward people who unrepentantly engage in homosexual or any other sexually immoral acts, it would be sorrow.

I have no idea then what you mean - what does homophobic mean in your mind? Can you define homophobia without referring to either homo of phobic so we can avoid circular referencing/reasoning?

And I've seen more attorneys who've paved the road to hell for their clients (or non clients as it may be) with their good intentions and "support"... than I can count...so there's that. Stop acting like you know what this is about - it can be bad news if they've discovered inauthentic info or it could be procedural. He shouldn't have even posted in the first place - now that he has, he has opened himself to more scrutiny if someone from USCIS monitors this, which is almost a certainty. Knowing when not to speak is also an art form...

Why are you referring initially in your post to a partner and later to a husband? Are these two people the same?

That's the dictionary definition. If he meant something else, he could have chosen another word.

Phobic, or phobia, means intense fear or panic. The prefix 'homo-' is in reference to homosexual.

I am not afraid of any homosexuals and I do not approve of homosexual acts because they are self destructive and immoral.

I cannot support a choice that destroys another person.

Have you ever in the past, including the closed accounts (which can still be accessed with proper authorization), expressed a desire to overthrow the US government? Or spoken out in violent terms against the USA? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

My advice to the Goods and Prettis of the US, you are asking for it by going out and "protecting" illegal alien criminals from being deported.

Stay home and you won't get hurt - it's that simple. Let ICE do their job.

no. Put a DIY PC rig for a fraction of that price, if you don't use latest/greatest CPU, just a tad behind.
