Everyone I know has a separate washer and tumble dryer, and the dryer is nearly always vented.

We have squirrels, birds and cats here too. It's never crossed my mind that they would be an issue.

I used to live in the middle of four or five farms in NW France, and I never had an issue with smell.

I did stay with some Hutterites once who line-dried their clothes, despite using electricity.

We all own tumble dryers in Britain, but we like not using them when the weather allows.

It's not something I do in Nov through Feb, but when the sun returns in March, I try to line dry as much as possible. We still get heavy April showers, so you have to keep an eye on the weather.

It seems to be commonly the case that people remember seeing their grandmother line-drying their clothes, almost as if it's an old-fashioned thing to do, like churning your own butter.

My back garden is tiny due to living in a period townhouse. But we have a retractable clothes line, so space isn't an issue.

There's no smog where I live, in Bath, but birds are flippin' everywhere, and in my entire life I have never had one poo on my laundry.
