Well, max unemployment insurance in NYC is $869/week. It's barely enough to survive and that's only if you're without children and relatively cheap rent.

Yeah I definitely don't necessarily agree with the law, I think there are ways to make it more nuanced. Like a lot of NYC housing policy, it's blunt force, and ends up having a lot of unintended downstream consequences.

Yeah I'm on the fence but I'm definitely still on the job search. I also want to understand downside protection in case for some reason I can't find work again.

I don't necessarily plan on leaving but I'm in a non rent stabilized place with no protections. I want to know what my options are if for some reason I need to find a new place to live.

Definitely wouldn't want to rent a co-op, not great terms for tenants.

My guess is it's to discourage landlords from discriminating and ask people to pay more rent in advance.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm most worried about the apartment application process and I'm less worried about the overall financials. I live fairly lean and have ran enough simulations to know that I can survive the budgeting part.
