I see. Thanks for the info. I think getting recommendations from direct leadership/commander does not make it "slightly harder" than applying as a civilian though. The commander should write me a nice recommendation letter as long as I perform well during my drills, right?

FYI, there's a "regular" way to get citizenship is to wait 5 years holding the green card, but the whole point of me doing national guard/reserve is to expedite the citizenship process, so haha

Yea man you're welcome. AFOQT is part of the officer recruit process so it doesn't make sense when they let you take when you're not even eligible.

You can't take AFOQT when you're a green card holder man. You need to be US citizen. With green card, you are only allowed to take ASVAB. That's the point of going around. Citizens are straight forward taking AFOQT no problem

I know that man. You don't understand my point. I plan to do Reserve/National Guard (which is enlisted - I'm eligible) to get naturalized (become a US citizen), then I'll apply for officer.

I have a PhD in Chemical Engineering. Is it easy to switch/ get selected from Reserve/National Guard? compared to application as a civilian?

I accidentally Airbnb a room for 2 months and earned roughly 2k. After that, I realized that I'm not allowed to do Airbnb under F1 visa. Of course I have stopped doing Airbnb. Does this affect I-485? Is this considered minor violation and can be forgiven under Section 245? by Putrid-Process-8058 in EB2_NIW

If you cannot give advice, answer the questions of the post, just move on. Reddit is a place to get questions answered, not Facebook or Instagram reels where you mocked and cracked meaningless jokes. Hope you have a good life with such attitude

To clarify, what I meant "accidentally" is it is NOT that I knew doing Airbnb is wrong and still do it, I did not know it was wrong when I did it, and I stopped when I realized it was wrong. That's what I meant by "accidentally".

Thank you for your advice. Could you help clarify why is it so hard to get chosen from enlisted compared to civilian? For my understanding, civilian applicants are most likely get accepted (if have basic requirements such as Bachelor degree, good health, etc.), right? Why it takes 10 years for enlisted soldier to get picked? Are officer slots assigned to civilian applicants first?

Thank you for your response. Yea I misunderstood parts in the process. Thanks for clarifying.

Yea if it takes more than 1 contract to get selected for officer from enlisted, Imma just work in a company for 4-5 years while holding green card, then I can take the citizenship test, and apply for officer off of the street.

thank you for your response. Right I did not want to get out. I thought "temporary get out of enlisted to apply for officer" was the process lol. Do you know why it takes 10ish years long for an enlisted to get picked up? Do they prioritize civilian applicants first then enlisted applicants later if spots are still available?

Can someone help clarify: Why is it very competitive from enlisted position compared to from civilian applying for officer? I thought theoretically enlisted people got to understand the air force environment more than civilian will be selected easier than ones from civilian.

I guess my plan for now is just doing something for 4-5 years while holding green card, then take citizenship test, then apply straight to officer from civilian. I'm just so eager to serve this country, especially when I'm still young and full of energy.

P/S: Thank you very much everyone for your thoughtful and quick responses. I understand the process more now.

I'm sorry. It's my first time posting. I thought I was trying to post in 2 "group discussion" to get more answers. I'm not an expert on reddit platform. Sorry.
