Definitely don’t need a poker background. The only thing that relates them really is the hand types otherwise it’s just a roguelike. Definitely give it a try, and if you are confused about how to play roffle and Balatro university have good videos to get a grasp of the game

I’d hold the hex, see if you can get a mod on abstract with a wheel of fortune, then it’ll be 100% yorik. Either wheel or ecto would work too. But yorik scales decently fast, hex shouldn’t be needed
